Well I finally got around to taking some photos of my newly finished feeders I built this past off season. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Started with an old 55-gallon barrel and a Boss Buck 12V feeder timer.

We used double nuts to attach the timer to the barrel so it can be removed without having to reach into the barrel. My buddy at the fabrication shop drilled out the hole for the funnel to sit in, then added rivets to stabilize the funnel inside.

A closer look at the double nut attachment:

We then installed the barrel into a custom fabricated stand. It's one large piece with the ladder attached; the other 2 legs slide in to complete the feeder. Add a galvanized lid, and there you have it!

And the final, painted finished product.

I don't normally care for a leg set up like you have, but, that one looks much more stable than some of the ones I have been on. The double nut set up for the control box is a good touch. Nice job. up up

I agree. Don't normally like this style due to not being very strong. This one on the other hand looks great. Good Job! up

Thanks, guys! Yes, the steel gauge is really heavy on this stand. Much, much heavier than the commercial ones in a similar style.

These things won't move at all, so cows and hogs aren't a problem. They're easy to climb, and perfect for filling feeders sans step ladder.

How you gonna keep coons off of it?

Not sure. Right now, they're not a problem. There are varmit cages around the spinner, and the gap is really tight. I don't think they can get to the spinner.

This feeder has been up for a month, and the corn has been distributing fine with no discernible coon-caused theft. I'll give it another few months and see if they become a problem.

The coons are definitely a problem for some of the other guys' feeders on the lease. Either they haven't found these feeders yet or the Boss Buck varmit cage is working.

I really dig that feeder. Keep us informed on the coon situation. Those Boss bucks are a good deal but I didn't think the cage would work very good.

Not a bad looking feeder at all!
I just hate how Boss Buck puts their legs on backwards on the control units. Makes it harder to bolt up. Also like the double bolt, makes it easy to change out.

i like that lid. it looks like it slips over the top. where can i find something like that? Mine are made of a plastic material that the racoons can tear through pretty easily.

nice work. where did you buy that little wire coon guard thing or did you make it? i like that much better than the big box that i have, its a pain in the [censored] when you want to just check/adjust the timer or something
