I usually go out in early March on sunny days when the temps will climb into the 70s. I have some places I visit year after year, but for your purposes I'd say look for rock piles and generally rocky areas as they'll come out to absorb the warmth. West facing and South facing have been best for me. Also look around other places where snakes have somewhere to hide/den underneath - one of my surefire spots is an old container on trailer that sits with tall grass around it and space underneath the container where they live.

You're absolutely welcome to take as many as you want off my place. I'm about 15 minutes northwest of Brady. I have a rock escarpment that's basically rattlesnake condos.

Here is a tip for ya, if you wear shorts and sandals you can sneak up on them easier.

I killed a copperhead with my flip-flop. Probably wouldn't try that on a grown rattlesnake.
