Had issue with my Python having 2 holes not wanting to extract. Noticed this after having the timing issue corrected, one doesn't relate to the other. Timing issue was most likely to wear of arm in frame related to use and fact gun built in 82 and one of highest output years for Pythons. The extraction issue is unknown where or when it became a thing. Timing was fixed by man in Arizona. Cylinder looked fine but closer inspection and using mic's showed 2 holes measured larger than 4 others that showed same. Calling Colt is not much help since they don't work on firearms 10 years old or more and forget parts for older models from factory! They did give me phone number and name of who they recommend so that was some assistance from factory. Called Custom Shop Inc and talked to Louie Jr. and Devon about issue and Louie Jr went and talked to his dad (owner of place) and said it sounded like couple holes are "jugged". Could have sent them pistol but opted to inquire on cylinder availability. They had one in stock for older Python so I placed the order! I was expecting the cylinder in mail but received complete assembly crane, extractor w/rod and cylinder with correct blue and zero wear. The fitment was very close due to crane difference but used my crane and put their cylinder parts on it and operates like a Python should...smooth as glass! Classic Python parts don't come cheap but this isn't supermarket firearm and it's never going anywhere. I spent more for one part than most people spend on entire gun but worth it to me.

I finally parked my old Nickel plated Python and replaced it in the shooting rotation with a S&W 686+. I had the 686 tuned and smoothed out, and it’s now the shooting equal of the Python. Never be as pretty though…

Was kinda long winded post but made in 82.Python's had the one part in frame (the arm that rotates cylinder that is close tolerance and it could keep it in time or cause rotation issues with time and use. Had friend use a 4" fully engraved nickel from custom shop that had timing issue back in the 80's. It was his service weapon as city marshal. He wasn't happy and it took 6 months to get it back from Colt. My first Python was 6" nickel that had rounded cylinder lock....traded it off.

Never be as pretty though… Some people take a fire arm out of the shooting category due to age or value or other personal reasons. My dad took his Grade iv model 21 16 gauge dove hunting and folks freaked out due its cost. He told them if you value something that way why drive a 60-75K vehicle feet away from strangers down hiway? He enjoys his toys but takes care of them.

couldnt get through your whole post how old was this python with two bad holes? sorry RLoving, this was a drunk post. I just saw Python; I'm looking at a new model and everyone has been bashing them. Wanted to know if it was a new Python bashing. Didn't mean to disrupt your questions.

Wanted to know if it was a new Python bashing. Didn't mean to disrupt your questions. Not a problem...I've done that myself! There are some differences in new and old Pythons but they are small so most people wouldn't notice. One of biggest is they aren't hand fitted, but hey if it shoots well then it's a win! I saw msrp is in $1500 range, another big difference the price. Older one are high as cats back in dog fight! The extractor is another, old one just screwed in through crane to extractor rod, new one has 2mm set screw on rod to extractor I believe. I like my old school revolver but new ones should be well built to! I am snobbish on some pistols at times...a S&W isn't a Smith enless it's pinned and recessed! Doesn't mean new ones don't work or well built just my personal irkness.

Absolutely, if you have something extra nice use it and enjoy it. You only live once in this unforgiving world. Don't let it be like grandma's fine china that she thought too much of to ever use.
