I don't know about you guys, but my primary weapon for the removal of vegetation is a machete. This past weekend, I realized that it was the only tool I used while clearing out a spot for a feeder pen. How many others use a machete? I got mine from an army navy surplus store. It came with a hand guard that I sawed off. Best on I ever used. Of course I use a chain saw on large stuff, but sometimes it feels good to hack away at a tree 3-4 inches thick with a machete.

i like the machete, but if u have a really small chainsaw, those are just way better, put it low to the ground and just walk around lol!!! machete will wear u out trust me! ill tell u what is not good... these woodmans pal things.. they suck for actually cuttin the stuff, but the hook on the back side is great for moving brush.

I keep one in the truck at all times as well. If you want a great machete, get a Tramontina. You can find them at Smoky Mountain Knife Works as well as other online stores. They cost less than $10 but are made in Brazil where people use machetes every day. They are actually made to be used and abused, unlike a lot of the machetes made by knife companies in America that are either too heavy, made of the wrong steel or are too brittle to be chopped with. I have the 12" that rides in my truck as well as several other ones I have placed in various barns on our land so there is always one close by.
I should also say that I have an Ontario Machete and it works really well, I just like the Tramontina's more because they are lighter. For a little clearing it doesn't matter, but if you are going to be swinging one all day, you will (or at least I do) notice the difference.

The Gerber Brush Thinner Machete with the hooked blade. It is 10x better than a normal machete.

I have more machetes than I need- always keep one around in the truck. But most of the time I use one of these- makes short work of mesquites and the weight of it really helps cut brush.....

A good pair of large tree limb clippers are an excellent tool to have in the back of your vehicle. Makes short work of any job like this.

I have an actual WW II model plus sheath that I carry on the atv all the time. It gets used regularly at the lease.

shake, I use clippers also especially closer to season. They make less of a rukus in the woods.
