Scouted one of my favorite spots this Saturday, to find this pile of shells there. For years never seen a trace of another hunter here. F’n Barney’s, I hate cleaning up after them…

Thanks for taking care of what they should have done. Did you get any?

I have never understood that. How hard is it to pickup after yourself. Hell, my 3 and 5 year olds know that much. Glad you got some.

Yeah, not only does it show what a lazy trashy human you are, it also shows how stupid you are to give away your spot.

Really disgusting that grown men have such disrespect for others and the great outdoors.

Whenever I walk in a new area on my place that I haven't checked out before, I expect to find an old beer can, or several. They can be in the oddest places. 'Try to stick a grocery sack in my pocket whenever I get out of the truck.

Lots of losers out there.

totally agree with you fellows on hating the trash some leave. I pick up now with care. I am an older guy and when I started hunting we always left our hulls in the field. It was just the way back then. I pick up others trash now to kind of pay back.. I am glad to see the new generations are more aware. thanks, fellows

This reminds me of being out on some publicly leased land during early teal/dove season and finding a whole bunch of 3.5" 12 gauge hulls, guessing some jacklegs who didn't know what they were doing and just blasting away at anything flying by. I pick up all the hulls I can find, mine and others because I'd hate to see any more of these leases dropped.

One of my scouting observations. Leaving shells is a big giveaway.

You and me both. I’ve watched a lot of things change Guy. One is an increasing percentage of the hunting population losing touch and appreciation with the land, habitat, and nature. I look for that trend to grow as demographics of our hunters continue to skew more to individuals born and raised in the cities that grow up with no connection to the land or understanding of the habitat. For many of them, once the shooting is over, they are finished and headed back to the city as quick as they can get there, leaving without another thought about the habitat or landowners property until they are ready to comeback for another shoot. Most of their time with a firearm is at a range where someone else cleans up after them when they are gone, much the same as you did…

Taking that a step further Smokey, a lot higher percentage of the city kids don't come from hunting families. I'm not saying they aren't responsible for their behavior, but many didn't grow up like us with their dad or gpa showing them the respect it deserves. Combine that with the fact that our culture is getting more and more selfish, especially for city kids, and you end up with crap being left everywhere. Not saying they all are that way, but a lot of them are the "who cares it doesn't affect me" generation.

That is a sad truth Larry. When I think about who our generation turns the future stewardship of our sport over to, I am concerned for the long term future of both migratory and upland bird hunting. If I’m optimistic though, the cream always rises to the top. Hopefully there will be enough good young men and women leaders committed to protecting the resources.

I did not come from hunting family, self taught. Leaving your hulls on public land is littering and against the law, common sense really.

Yeah but you're an ol fart, not from the me generation... which tends to lack common sense or courtesy.

When you found another groups trash, you recognized the right thing and picked it up. Earlier this year getting ready to launch at a public ramp I watched four young men, maybe high school age, take 4 ziplock bags with empty hulls and put one in each of their blind bags laughing about how smart they were. They had no plans to pick up their empties and prepared in case they met a game warden. 100% me generation punks.

Oops, my bad Guy. I left the TP back at the truck and had to get outa there in jig time bolt

Seriously though, duck hunters are not near as bad as the dam dove hunters. I watched a father and 2 sons on my former lease leave a brushy tree line point....drove over there and I bet there were 9 boxes of shells and the boxes on the ground. But then if limits for ducks were like dove I guess it would be just as bad. And I bet the shells sinking are covering up a lot we don't see on the water.

I hate seeing trash when I’m in the woods. Totally agree about the turn off.
