You been hunting Guy? Or you taking this year off again? Last year I took off because of shoulder injury, plus getting back into snow sking. I have been on the water scouting and hunting 14 days this duck season, including early teal. I'm not burning my vacation days hunting any more, saving those for skiing. I got a season pass at Taos this year, headed out tomorrow... I'll probably do more duck hunting next season, especially first split. Focus on sking after hunting season, that is when it is good anyway. Took my daughter skiing Christmas week, probably the last time I go sking in December, the snow was not good, it is just now getting good. Went dove hunting every weekend this year.

Ya I saw you were chasing dove pretty hard but have been quiet since then. Another thing at work is I turned 60 this year, I'm putting extra effort into being safe. If things aren't just right, I do not go out. One trip I camped 2 days, never hunted one day. Its been hard for me to get into a rhythm duck hunting this season. In years past, I would take 5 days off work and hunt/camp all week, I would get into a good rhythm. I got into a good rhythm with dove going every weekend, I'm liking dove hunting a lot because it is safe. One thing I like about skiing as well is that it is safe, and I don;t have to get up at dark 30 in the morning. As it is looking, I'll probably only hunt the last 2 weekends of the season, could just be 2 more hunt days. I like to scout and camp on Saturday, hunt on Sunday. So the last 2 Sundays in Jan is probably all I will hunt, if conditions are right. But for me these days, its just about getting out with my dog and getting away from the rat race at work, and, most importantly, not killing myself.

I understand that, things can get out of hand pretty quickly when your by yourself.
Have you been doing any good when you do get out?

Birds on all tanks Monday. Resting birds on lake b. Probably 75. Window shoppers probably. They were gone Tues but tanks are holding feeders.
No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Saw more geese and sandhill cranes today than ducks. Awesome pic! Love seeing the kiddos involved in duck hunting!

Hunting has been slow this season - see below:
Over 5 hunts at our spot in Love County, OK we've shot 5 ducks and 1 goose.
Took part in a large guided hunt Sunday the 9th in Mertens, TX. One duo shot their 2 man limit of mergansers, ringnecks and gaddies and our large group of 10 shot 2 teal and 2 ringnecks.
Very few ducks in the air right now. Headed down to Port A next week and hoping we hammer 'em.
The best hunt I had was a 3 man limit of teal in Southern California over Christmas break.
I'm looking for a Tikka T3X Superlite in .30-06

overall very poor season but Jan has been better than Dec. My last 4 hunts all in the past 8 days have been solo-limit, solo-3 birds, me and a buddy- 2man limit and solo-4 birds. All public. Today was the 4 bird day and we need another front bad to finish out strong on the season. I took a quick trip to into Oklahoma last Thursday, not much.....scooted over to Arkansas Friday and hunted flooded timber along the Cache River and they are hurting for birds about like we are. I have a customer that were going to be putting a metal roof on S.E. of Stuttgart. he is going to call me when they get birds....no call yet and they flood their own fields/timber.
I don't feel so bad about our season seeing what going on over in the duck capital of the world

There is definitely more birds in North Texas right now than there has been all season. Numbers significantly increased right at New Years. Still ain’t great, but better.

Not much flying this morning. May have seen a dozen birds or so, but what did fly worked really good. Ended with 4 gads and a mallard drake, should have had a other mallard but completely wiffed.

Numbers of puddle ducks have increased substantially this week……hitting moist soil shallow wetlands / areas pretty hard. Should be a good weekend
