I posted in the summer that we had lost our lease for the first time in 9 years and I wanted a place my daughter could come out during youth weekend. Rich replied back and we got to talking. After looking at his website, my daughter decided she would rather take an Oryx than another whitetail. So we put a date on the calendar for after deer season. We arrived Friday 1/14/22, the place was easy enough to find with the directions Rich sent me. They pointed us to our cabin. It was a nice little cabin with a bed and bunkbed; full stocked kitchen and a bathroom (with a shower). Everything we would need. After settling in, Rich asked her to shoot her gun to ensure it was on and she would be able to make a good clean shot. We went to the main house and met the wife as well as Pete who would be our guide and reviewed a diagram of where my daughter would need to take her shot. After that, we retired to our cabin and made dinner/watched a movie (no TV in the room, we brought our own DVD player). The next morning our guide Pete took us out, a really nice guy. We went to a blind that was comfortable for all three of us, there was a heater to take the chill off and we waited. As the sun came up, we could see a protein feeder about 125 yards to our left, a corn feeder about the same to our right and some trees/hay bale about the same distance in front of us. Soon the whitetails started to come out. Absolutely beautiful deer. Some of the bucks I could only dream of harvesting. After a bit an oryx came out, but she was an old broke horn. Then eventually a bull came out. Pete asked my daughter if she wanted it, he thought it would be 26+ inches and about 250 lbs; but he told her that if we are patient, she could do SO much better. So she decided to wait. The morning hunt ended and we went back to camp. We went back out early, around 2:30 or so. By 4:00 some Axis bucks came out, most were young or broke horn, but there was one stud still in velvet that is going to be a trophy for someone for sure. Eventually they left and here come all the whitetail again. We waited and watched them eat and play. Then after a long sit, I happened to turn to my right and in the brush I saw something white moving our way. It was the same Oryx bull we had seen before, but this time he brought friends as there were three in the group. Him, and old broke horn and then a BEAUTIFUL big cow came out of the bush. My daughter watched it walk the length of the opening to the protein feeder and decided that was the one she wanted. She patiently waited for it to eat and then leave the feeder so she could get a good shot. The bam! It walked about 20 yards or so and then slowly moved into the brush. I thought the shot might have been a little low, but Pete swore it was a good shot. We waited for a bit to walk into the brush and when we did we found a 410 pound cow with a horn length of 37 1/4 inches; she was a beauty! They offered to let us go back out Sunday morning to hunt some hogs, but we decided to just sleep in. We had a really good time at the ranch, I would highly recommend this place, we will be back one of these days for sure!

Thomas, Thank you for bringing Maya to hunt with us. It was a terrible day for hunting, very cold with winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour. Maya's patience sure paid off. Rich
