FROM PAGE 68 TPW OUTDOOR ANUAL TOP LINE OF PAGE "NEW LAW: A MIGRATORY BIRD STAMP IS REQUIRED TO HUNT ANY MIGRATORY GAME BIRD, INCLUDING MOURNING DOVE."
I KNOW THERE IS NOW A "STATE" STAMP IT DOES NOT SAY IF BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL STAMPS ARE REQUIRED OR IF IT IS JUST THE STATE STAMP THAT IS REQUIRED
I ASSUME IT IS STATE STAMP, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Since it appears in the Texas P&W annual they are making reference to state law and a state stamp. The federal stamp is for waterfowl.

Guys You need to read all of the information. Doves are migratory game birds and both stamps are Required as of Sept 1,2005. The State stamp is an license endorsement ( Migratory Game Bird Stamp Endorsement) Federal stamp is the Migratory Game Stamp (Aka. Fed Duckstamp)

I could be wrong, but the Federal Stamp is for Waterfowl only. It has nothing to do with hunting doves.
If you are going to hunt teal during the early season, then you have to have both the state and Federal stamps, but if you are not hunting ducks or geese, you do not have to have the federal stamp to hunt doves.

Like CHC said, the $15 federal waterfowl stamp is for waterfowl only. That is ducks, geese, and teal only. You do not need it for dove.

Come on now, we all know why this line was added to the Outdoor Annual It is because the press hammered Dick Cheney for not having that stamp when he was quail hunting. The $15 Federal Waterfowl stamp is not required for hunting dove, quail, pheasant or chukar, but depending on which of the mentioned birds you hunt you may need an Upland Game Bird Stamp or a Migratory Bird Stamp. Both of these are $7 each. If you want to be safe, just buy the super combo for $64 and don't hunt waterfowl or add the $15 Federal stamp and hunt any legal game.
Every moving thing that lives shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. - Genesis 9:3

I didn't buy the super combo this year caz I haven't fished a public lake in 3 years. Saved me $25 for not getting the fishing stuff. I probably should have gotten the hunting lifetime license. You can always add the fishing for $400 at a later time.

Crazyhorse is right, Team Hillbilly is mistaken, M16 is right on . . . no federal stamp is needed for dove hunting; a super combo covers almost everything; you will need a federal duck stamp for ducks and geese and you will need a sandhill crane permit as well.
Just thought I would throw that last item in for good measure!

Everyone who said just buy the combo is correct.
Super Combo Type II (for ducks, in my case) Duck Stamp Sandhill Crane
And you're set.

I will research this more later, This is my first year hunting doves in Texas, But Tn,SC,NC,Va,and Kansas the "MIGRATORY BIRD HUNTING AND CONSERVATION STAMP" IS REQUIRED TO HUNT MIGRATORY GAME BIRDS. We call it a duck stamp or waterfowl stamp, but the U.S.Department Of The Interior, CALL IT THE "MIGRATORY BIRD HUNTING AND CONSERVATION STAMP". Most people don't know it but this stamp is also used as a season pass to any National Wildlife Refuge as well. As I said at the top 1st. year hunting doves in Texas, but I'm far from being new, that law could have changed Maybe, but I spent 4 years as a Fed. Game Warden stationed in the state of Kansas, I have checked hundreds of duck stamps in dove season. I also hunt waterfowl so I needed the STAMP anyway, More To Come, as I didn't want to lead anyone down the wrong path.

Gotta love it when one office says one thing and another something else. Does Lufkin even have dove out that way? It's all pine trees.

Hillbilly, it's easy to get confused these days. You would think by now standards would have been developed across the country.

Once in a while you will see a few on the powerline or around tanks (ponds) but not many. I'm going south to hunt them this year. Most of the time I'm already deer hunting in SC by dove season, so they don't get much of my time.

Never had to worry about HIP. I've always been asked the HIP questions as part of buying my license. The places I buy from, Academy, Walmart, ask the HIP questions in the same breath they ask to see my drivers license. Are you saying that now you need to ask, and pay for, HIP certification? I guess I'm missing your point...

They are supposed to ask the HIP questions. There is no charge, and if they don't, but mark your license with the HIP code the you are alright. Over the past few years however there have been people issued license where the HIP certifacation was not put on the license. That is one thing a person needs to make sure of when they are handed their license and before they leave the sales counter.

CHC That is correct, but if you have left and didn't notice you can go back and have it added. They will give you another license with HIP only on it. Just keep both together for the Warden. All of them will be Out next weekend for sure. Be Safe, legal, and have fun

Two years ago they asked me the questions and then I never got the HIP on my license from Academy. It wasn't until I read Sasser's article that this was a common mistake by the stores. The year before, I was never asked a single question and got the HIP on the license anyway. They have gotten much better now.

I don't know that much about stamps. On Brian Hughs talk show this morning he said. If you dove hunt type two land you have to pay the extra $45 dollors for the stamp. I would check into it but I am sure that is what he said.

I didn't see that show, but I bet he was talking about the $48.00 or whatever it is for the AHP permit, as neither of the stamps, state migratory bird or Federal waterfowl cost that much.
