Or any other youth standby observations in the past.....
Saw Daughtrey has a few spots open for the hunt next week, Monday through Wednesday. I’ve always wanted to see this place, but haven’t been drawn. So, thinking of making the trek down with my oldest but curious if any one has an idea of the number of folks that show up for standby typically, specifically for this youth hunt. When we hunted the chaparral last year, there were maybe 10 standing by for 1 spot. I believe there’s 4 spots on this hunt including the north shore. Is it worth the drive down, or will there be 100 folks hoping for a spot? It’s probably a 5.5 hour drive one way for me.
Pros: It’s a mid week hunt, youth only, I believe 4 spots open
Cons: Long drive to be turned away..

I bet they have a bunch of people show up. Never been on a youth standby but have on several adult hunts. There are usually way more people standby than positions available. It is a long drive, for me as well but…..if you don’t go there is no chance. The Daughtrey is an awesome place to hunt. Good luck and hope you get drawn.

Thanks for the feedback Erny. With only 10 spots, and 4 of those vacant, I’m thinking there may not be that many. I’m working on a plan b in the area in the event we don’t get drawn. Fingers crossed

i was considering going to see for the standby as well. i've never done it before or been drawn initially. I have heard from others that especially with the youth hunts that if you show up they really make an effort to get you in the woods. even if it means taking more than what they originally drew for. I don't know how true that is, but i've heard.
i too am curious how it ended up for anyone who was drawn or has experience for standby???

wow, yeah they look like they did pretty well. I was in the process of moving and a lot of other things this year, If we had been drawn we would have gone, but we didn't make it out as standby's. next year we will enter again and hopefully with fewer things on the plate will go as standby if not drawn. We go fishing down there with some frequency since i was a kid, its been excellent to take my own kids back there and would be incredible for them to get to do some hunting there as well.
