Thinking about this combo with a suppressor. Light, short, accurate. This would be a bolt gun. What am I looking at? I remember my Barrett Fieldcraft had a short barrel (20") did really good/
Is a 6.5 Creed efficient enough in this short barrel? I'm not going to buy any other caliber as I have a lifetime (my lifetime) worth of components.

I have shot the 6.5 creedmoor in a 17 inch barrel for years. Do not shoot any bullets larger than 130 grain. It cannot push the larger bullets fast enough to get the same down range energy 130 and smaller can. I tried it plenty. The nosler 129 grain has taken down some big mules at distance .

You should do it. I have 16" threaded bolts in 308 and a 6.8 SPC and they are a dream suppressed. You won't miss the barrel at hunting ranges. Keep your longer barrel 6.5 for targets.

Here is my $500 Remington Seven. It's my beater rifle. The weight and balance is pretty amazing suppressed. I think it's 41" with suppressor.

I’d do a 6.5saum or 6.5prc…16” with 123 Scenars at over 3000fps is nasty on stuff. Not sure the prc can get to 3000 but it’ll be close, if you want to shoot 140’s it’ll be at or slightly over 6.5 Gaymoor speeds with the longer barrel.
A buddy wanted mine so I sold it so this isn’t reading internet garbage and regurgitating, this is experience. I will build another, just got other stuff in flight I need to finish first. 6.5saum does live up to the hype.

Buzz. I believe TexFlip runs a 16” 6.5 CM suppressed and loves it.

My go to hunting rifle is a 22” 6.5cm with 156 Berger’s at 2755.
I have had some down to 16”.
I honestly think 20+ is best. Still plenty short for suppresses etc. thunderbeast ultra 5 ☺️

Plenty good for TX deer. Barrel on my Encore is cut 16 1/4”. It’s a dream to hunt with in a deer blind. Worked up a load this weekend of Scenar 108s @ 2800fps

I cut my 700 down to a 16.25” barrel and it’s a good little beat around gun. I haven’t started loading for it, but need to. Factory Hornady 143 eld-x are pretty slow and averaging 2465 FPS.

Sig cross is a 18” creedmoor. I want one pretty bad, but probably a 16” 308 instead.

I really enjoy mine. It does shoot lighter loads better but I was still putting 140s on a 12” steel plate at 500, they start to drop off pretty quick after that (so do I). Bergara ridge with special purpose 18” barrel.

Agreed 130 is probably the best balance. I have done plenty of Shooting with a 16” Creedmoor. The 140’s outrun the 120’s pretty easily past 500 or so. Muzzle velocity is just one part of the equation.

my buddy just got the Sig Cross with an 18" barrel That is a nice rig.. shot it over the weekend and did some chronoing..
The Barnes LRX 127g was averaging around 2700 and was clover leaf groups right out of the box...
If I was in the market that would be a top candidate I already have a 16" 308 and 17" 7mm08 bolt actions that area threaded otherwise I would be tempted

We're running a 18' Lilja and a 20' Bartlein M24 carbon fibre. The 18' is shooting bug hole groups at 100 with the Hornady 143 ELD-X. The Bartlein places the 140 ELD-M in one nice, clean hole. Consistent sub-MOA groups out to 1500 with both.
