Im going on an axis hunt this weekend and have never been,so just wanted some ideas on how to judge them in the field. Obviously the prices vary depending on size, so just wanna be halfway confident in judging size before I pull the trigger. Any help is appreciated.

If you like him shoot him. That is how most judge them.

Prices vary on size and there's no guide with you when you hunt?

If you like him, shoot him. Best way to judge is by doing it. Look at pics here or surf the internet.

I'm the same as you and don't know all that much about judging them and have only killed one buck about 20 years ago that I had mounted. He is 29" tall and about 26" wide. I got pics of this one early this morning on our lease south of Eldorado and think he is pretty good. I'm thinking somewhere around 30"-32" tall??? I'd like some input as well on sizing this one up to see how close my guess is. And....good luck on your hunt. Hope you get a good un!
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I’ve shot a couple. It’s hard unless you’ve got a group to compare across. First one I shot was by himself and was 29”. Second one was with 5 other bucks and was 34”. I knew number 2 was huge though just looking at him.

I guess I was kinda hunting both. I was on a bluff overlooking a feeder down in a creek bottom. I actually shot her along the creek about as far away from the feeder as you could get.
