Hey everyone. As dove season is starting to get closer I'm wondering what would be better for this Season. My Mossberg 20 Gauge Pump or my Winchester 16 gauge Pump?

I only say the 20 gauge because the 16 gauge shells are hard to find and more expensive. Otherwise I dont think you could go wrong with either.

I don't know about your area, but 16ga shells are pretty scarce (& more expensive). I have a 12ga, but plan to use my 20ga for dove. I figure if I can't hitem with the 20, what good would a 12 do.

I believe your winchester is probably a smoother pump to shoot than the mossberg, so I would use the winchester. Gander Mtn has plenty of 16 ga shells and they're not that expensive.

20 gauge seems to be the most popular for doves.
I've got an old 16 and I grew up shooting my Dad's old 16 guage, and it was a dove getter delux.
I don't think you can find 16 guage shells very easily, but I haven't looked or noticed any in a while.
16's have a following, 20's are sweet, but a 12 guage is pretty much all purpose.

I have two 16 guage shotguns and love them both. one is my 1941 Winchester Model 12 and the other is a 97 Winchester made in 1916. the 97 I use extensivly in SASS matches. I also reload my own shells so I dont rely on the market prices. I have found that the model 12 handles like a 20 ga but has more power like the 12 ga. to each their own they say.

I would go with the 16 and use the 20 for a trotline wt(just because it is a mossberg).

I have a Browning Auto5 and plan on breaking it out this year for dove since the shell prices are back within reason, but will use a benelli 20 some also.
