A neighbor has one that he keeps on our pond. Seems to work fine.

I’m wanting one as well been checking them out off and on starting to lean towards the kind you peddle or one with a trolling motor. I think they’d be a blast on the coast.

The paddle ones you cannot get around in very shallow water, also the trolling motor being added you have to have the kayak registered every year and have numbers on side.

Yeah, I fish out of a Hobie PA14 running Garmin Livescope. A pedal kayak is the way to go if you want to keep your hands free for fishing and maneuvering while fishing. Prop types are great for instant forward/reverse but the Hobie fins are great in shallow water as they can be up near the hull and flutter kicked for propulsion in real shallow areas. Best thing to do is test several before you make a decision.

Yeah I was aware about the registration and numbers still trying will probably go with the pedal model. Trying to decide on length now.

My only piece of advice is get a kayak with a raised seat...having your butt wet for hours sucks. Plus needs to be light enough to handle yourself. I also have a cart to assist in carrying mine a long distance.

Pretty sure I want to pedal vs paddle Go to Mariner Sails in Dallas. They are the Hobie dealer for this area but they carry other brands and will let you do an on the water demo so you get the right one for you. Your weight will be a determining factor in what you will be comfortable/safe in.

I fish the coast in a perception 12.0 pescador. It is a good kayak but not a foot peddle. I am a wade fisherman. I use the kayak to get there then I get out and wade. Perception makes a foot pedal kayak. Has forward and reverse. I would only look at one piece roto molded kayaks. If you plan to fish out of the boat, a foot pedal is a good choice, as is a drive with reverse. A wide boat is more stable if you want to stand in it. A narrow boat with a pronounced keel tracks better and is faster.

Even if you don't think you are going to get much rain, pull your kayak more than 5 feet up the bank fot overnight camping. Especially if your 12 year old son says "dad, you're buying me a new one if gets washed away. "
