Our place is in West Texas and the well on the ranch is 3-4 miles away. We put the 5 water stations in 3 years ago and we have seen alot more deer and turkey.

Have you been out west this summer? It has been awhile since we have seen it this green. Even parts of New Mexico that look as desolate as the gates of hell have green grass growing. Even Pecos Texas area has had to shred the bar ditches because of this years rains.
In our area, 25 miles east of San Angelo, the grass is green and looking real great. But the drought has left us with 3 dry stock tanks. To help keep the deer on our place we haul water. We have gotten pretty decent rains but not enough run off to fill the tanks.

Feed them, water them, so this is hunting??? Might as well pen them up, or put up your high fence.
Sorry to each his own, but that is not hunting to me!
My kind of hunting is going out and looking for ruts, rubs, food & water sources, beding areas and trails. I enjoy getting out in the woods looking for signs & observing nature. I don't do as much scouting as I should or know how many deer are in the area and how many bucks of what size. I do enjoy seeing game, the kill, talking about it, and eating the meat. I even enjoy processing the meat.
I've paid to hunt in a fenced in area, even bought hogs that someone trapped, and hunted over top a bait pile. I'm not trying to through stones just thinking out loud.

I have not been out in a couple of months, my sons have taken over filling the water and feeders but they have told me that we got some rain out there.

Get out in the woods? You must be east Texas, out west if the food plots and feeders were eliminated there would be a large die off deer due to starvation. The remaining deer herds would become pathetic in size. The ending result would be the movement of deer hunters looking to central and east Texas. I would predict that leases would double in 5 years and triple in 10 years.

I think the closest natural water is about 7 miles away. Might be farther, but I know of none closer that 7 miles. The sources of water in this area are a few windmills. Deep wells, as in very deep wells. It gives a new meaning to getting out in the "woods" to see a tree on the horizon that looks like a small shrub.

I built a water system using 2 275 gallon totes and a 55 gal plastic barrel cut in half. Works great and pretty cheap. Her are some pics of it B4 I put it in the feild http://www.photoworks.com/util/slideShow...amp;svr=pw-web2I put mine away from my feeders because i didint want the deer hunted at the water source.
