I can’t figure out what is going on with some money that is tied up in SPAXX. I’ve done some searching, and the results make it sound like it’s just my available cash, but I can’t do anything with it. Can anyone explain to me how that works, and how I can free that money up to invest in something else?

Sneaky, SPAXX is the Governmental Money Market fund that should be available "core cash" available for trading unless it is "settling" from a recent trade or it is serving as compensating "margin" for prior executed trades on margin. Beyond those two things, unless you're talking about a 401K account or something with # of trade maximums monthly or something that you may have yet, doesn't make sense that it would be restricted.

I appreciate the help, DQ. I’m pretty ignorant about this stuff, so bear with me.
It’s not a 401k, and it’s been there for months, so it’s nothing to do with any recent trades. That’s all I can tell you based on what you’ve told me. The rest I don’t comprende.

Not a 401k, so a taxable account? Assume its your dividends from other funds. Deposits there if you are not set to automatically reinvest Should be able to make a trade and tell it to use that money

I don’t think it’s dividends. I would assume I can do something with that money, but I can’t figure out how. When I try to sell it, it won’t let me.

SPAXX is where uninvested money sits, you don’t sell it. If you have $1,000 in SPAXX, then you make a $500 stock purchase for example, it will pull the $ from SPAXX… your account will show the $500 stock holding and $500 in SPAXX. Charlie

So that money won’t show in my balances, as long as it’s in SPAXX?

SPAXX is just a core holding position of cash - when I had some money there it still showed up in my positions -
I put my "non invested" money in the FZDXX - just a place to hold money until I decide to invest it - it shows up in my positions along with my other mutual funds -
You can't fix stupid

Yup, FZDXX is Fidelity's premium core cash position. Have mine there too.
