I heard today that RC Slocum was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. He will be taking chemo in B/CS. Not an Aggie fan (Hook'em) but I think he was a good coach.

Terrible...I have a Wings N More napkin autographed by him somewhere. I will keep him in my prayers.

A truly good guy....kept me from flunking out of A&M my freshman year.
He was an assistant to Emory Bellard ....1973/74...my freshman year. I was a manager on the football team....a job my uncle swung for me.
I was a complete screw up as far as school was concerned....a lot of F’s and D’s that Fall.
In January, R.C.’s secretary calls me...tells me Coach Slocum wants to see me....so I go in. He sits down behind his desk...flips this card at me (my grades). He looks at me, and in that baritone voice, says....”Son, what is this?”
“Coach”, I say, “those are my grades”. He says, “Is that what you call them?”
“Son, these are gonna be the last grades you see, if you don’t figure out how to turn this ship around.”
Clearly, my uncle set this up....best thing that ever happened to me....I’m no A student, but that little talk changed my attitude for the better...a whole lot better.
No better gentleman than R. C. Slocum.

My cousin played for Slocum. He said coach was like a second father to him. I'll be praying for him.

He’s a real good man and a friend of mine.
I have footballs,shirts caps autographed by him.
I lost touch with him the last couple years use to get him chicken litter for his pasture

Our thoughts and prayers go out for RC and his family! Even us longhorns have a lot of respect for the coach, he was always a gentleman on the field and off.

Loved watching every beating his teams gave to Texas. I believe he was 7-7 against them during his tenure. Wishing him the best in this battle.

He's as classy as they come. Hodgkins Lymphoma is beatable but it's a hell of a fight. Prayers to him for a full recovery and to ease the pain of the battle to come.
