Still my favorite and I’m trying to buy another one right now.
One things for certain, pick a caliber and you’ll find enthusiast. I recently picked up a pair of 257 Roberts which to most is a footnote in history and found it has a strong following. Now if I can just make the Ruger shoot as well as the Remington I’ll be happy.
Love mine, very effective on deer and I’ve seen it used successfully on elk. Popularity wise, well maybe it has lost some being squeezed between the 6.5CR and the .308 (just my two cents)

LOL you are right about that! We will defend our favorite or nostalgic favorite cartridge to the death, even when deep down we know the cartridge is past its prime and overshadowed by newer ones with better ballistics. I will never give up on my .250 Savage, .257 Roberts, 25-06, 300 Savage, .6mm, 260, 6.5x55, .35 or 30-30 to name a few
Love the Roberts especially, had a couple of “Bob” Rugers (red pads) they both had longer chambers than the others and seemed to do better with the heavier 117 and 120 bullets.

Man I’m jealous! I’ve been jonesing for a Remington 700 classic or a Ruger 77 tang or Hawkeye for a long while now.
Yep, I’m old school I have two rifles in the old 257 Robert’s a Winchester 70 and a ruger no. 1. Also, two rifles in the 7mm-08, a ruger 77 and a bergara 14. Gotta love the traditional old calibers.

How does that Bergara 14 shoot?

I overlooked the 7mm-08 as a kind of oddity for a long time. Then I started testing one and I was hooked. My current rifle is a Remington heavy barrel 9 twist that with my handloads will almost shoot flat @ 300 Yds. Extremely impressive !

It's one great round. Versatile, soft recoiling, flat shooting, lots of bullet choices. It may have lost its sex appeal, but it's still a hunter for anyone and any game animal in Texas and a lot of game animals in North America.
The bergara is a tack driver. I have a zeiss scope on it and at 100 yards it’s shooting 1/2 inch groups right out of the box. I also, have the same rifle in a 243 that took a eight point buck at 200 yards last season. I’m totally sold on the bergara 14s.
7mm-08 is a damn near perfect Texas chambering. I grew up with a .257 Bob and it is outstanding in the field in classic form, but I would love to have one with a faster twist barrel to try out some of the newer slippery quarter bore bullets.
