All I have to say is Mojo. For the first few years after they came out with these I thought they were just another gimic to get everyone's money but boy was I wrong. They are the damndest thing I have ever seen while dove hunting. They will turn birds around and put them in your lap.

My boys use a Mojo Dove with some cheap decoys on the ground. You can set these up in a field if they are comming in to feed or by a watering hole.

Good Luck.............

I have a bunch of the clip-on ones from wal-mart. I put them on fences, trees, the ground... I've even made a few different types myself. But, like said above - the mojo is like a magnet.

I think that if you combine the Mojo and the clip-on decoys you will be convinced of their effectiveness. Dove are a flocking species and they are attracted to other groups of dove. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

My comment here is just for mojo dove, and not mojo duck. Mojo dove is better than no mojo probably 95% of the time. There have been times (although rare) I thought mojo dove was flaring the dove, and I pulled the mojo dove in.

I will say last season on one hunt, I seen dove come in like ducks, they seen the mojo from 300 yards out, and turn, and even cup and come in, it was nothing like I seen before. We were in a field with no food, and the dove were flying over late morning coming from another feeding field, I suspect looking for a place to rest after eating, and they were coming straint into our mojo, me and my son had easy limits that morning...

And I also use one or two MOJO's, keep them about 20 yards out, the dove will try to land next to your decoys

Several times last year we had dove tornados over our mojo while we were shooting and they kept at it for awhile. We couldn't reload fast enough. Marking the birds was fun.

+ 1 on the football. Although you body will thank you down the road if you don't play. Mine reminds me every day of the fun I had.
I made fun Of all the guys that had mojo dove until I set by a friend last year. I had two the next day and a couple of wind spinners. Unbelievable the difference it can make

Simply put.....Play football while you can,you are a high school kid in Texas and not every kid can say that. Then dove hunt on weekends. Go get a Mojo decoy and two bag fulls of the Wal-mart special clip ons and you should be having a blast. But for God sakes enjoy the football while you can.

something else to try if you don't have a fence or if your fence is coverd with high brush. make a decoy tree out of pvc or 3/8 re bar. put the mojo on the top with cheep decoys on the lower branches. I am going to make a tree out of 3/8 rebar 8 feet tall in 4' sections that slip together. the branches will be bent around 45 deg and slipp into a 1/2 pipe about 1" long welded to the 3/8 rebar. I am going to make a foot spikt on the end about 10" long for plowed fields so it will stand up. I will be able to take it down a put in in a old bag lawn chairs come in. or you can buy cheep ones for $ 75. at Bass pro. I think the higher you get them in the air the better they can be seen by the birds.

Youngsouthtexashunter I did the same thing. left football to hunt. I never looked back.

I also thought the mojo was a joke until my buddy brought his out a couple years ago nad wow I was hooked! I have had a couple try to land on the decoy and also last year I had a red tail hawk attack it! That was cool!... Oh and last season I got some of those cheapo's from wal mart and made my own wind spinners! They worked out real well!

It's your decision to quit, but I believe that football has many benefits. You'll build moral character by learning to stick with it, even when the situation sucks. By bleeding and sweating together in the hot summer sun you'll build friends that will last a lifetime; and yes, you'll probably hunt with them later on in life. I played football for 8 years and never missed a season opener. You just have to find balance. But like I said, it's your call...

I've always found that if you hunt a field with some birds on it, and you can hit anything, you really don't need decoys.
