Just got back from feeding steers, and checking tanks. The Mesquite trees are puting on a big crop of beans. The old timers say thats a sighn of a cold winter.. Could be the mesquite trees are usually right.

A colder than average winter is not likely with an el nino pattern shift. The shift is usually accompanied by warmer wetter winters. But hey I'll be rooting for the cold as long as we get the wet.

I think the steers are feeding the trees.

I sure hope so, so far I've heard we are going to have above average rainfall and good duck numbers. Bring on the cold, I could use a good waterfowl year. The last three have been tough in central Texas.

I remember walking with my granddad when i was knee high to a short frog and him saying something to that effect. always used it as a "wive's tale" indicator. Never really been off that I can remember.......

.........Of course, I can be pretty damn forgetful.

The mesquite trees were off by several weeks on the last freeze in West Texas this year.

It'll be mild and wet. The wet is what we need to all hope for. Heavy snows through the Plains and we're in business.

I feel bad for your south Texas guys and your water situation. Hope y'all get a tropical storm sometime in late September or October.

I believe in years of 10...

This I believe will be the "year of the Mallard"

Hummmm you better hope for super cold with them, wow

I'm hearing colder and wetter then normal, question is what's normal ?? The number of foggy morning in Aug will tell you how many morning of frost your going to get in deep East Texas.

Angelina Co south to Jefferson County got really good rain fall in the last 24 hours, some flooding in the low laying area's today, looking for more tonight Now if my places south of Houston would just get some rain, been dry for three month plus

I bought them for a spare set, but if it gets cold (real cold) I'm ready.
