Looking at putting a winch in the front of my Honda Pioneer. Looking at 4000 or 4500 lb size.

Any suggestions? Any of these Amazon brand $150 brands any good?

Thanks!

Take Care,
Bub

If you really need a winch to get unstuck, I would definitely steer clear of the chinese/Amazon winches. Kinda like safety and first aid equipment - you don't want it to fail when you really need it.

The truth has been said.

Don’t buy a cheap junker, I call those disposable winches because they very often dont work when you really need them. I put a Warn Axon 5500 on our but a 4500 would be just fine as well. Something also to consider is the installation, the cheapo’s have solenoids and wires running everywhere and they suck wiring everything up where as the Axon you hook up the positive, the negative and a 12v keyed source and that’s it. It took just a few minutes to wire it up after bolting it on up

Warn makes the best winches. Highly recommend.

That’s a poorly written opinion. The Smittybilt winches I currently run have lasted way longer than any Warn winch I’ve owned. When my Ram 2500 got stuck to the axles, it took an 18,500 pound 1 day old Warn winch and my 2 year old 15,500 Smittybilt to get me out. During that pull, which lasted about 3 straight minutes, the Warn burned up and couldn’t pull in its remaining 20 feet of rope. The owner spent almost $2000 on that Warn, it made 1 pull.

Following....

Little apprehensive on dropping the almost $1k on the Polaris winch.. Only positive I see to it is that is nearly "plug and play".

True life experience with the smaller Warn winches. My previous career for 22 years was with a major Metro Fire department in Texas. After many years on the front line I took a support role that dealt with equipment procurement and maintence for Fire and EMS apparatus. We had 5 Bariatric unit ambulances that utilized a winching system to basically hoist obese patients into the back of ambulances. These used some of the smaller Warn winches to accomplish the task. I had a few of them go out and was not impressed with them. When I went to rebuild them and obtain parts for them Warn basically told me they were throw away winches. Just my .02 cents from personal experience.
