I'm having trouble deciding if I should mow the small overgrown hay field & plant a food plot at one of my stands or not. So I was hoping some of you guys with similar experience could lend some advice.

here are my concerns. We just setup a stand in this area last season and it saw far less deer than any other stand. I kept cams and corn out there all spring and the stand seemed to be receiving a high amount of traffic(by comparison to last season) and we were getting tons of day time deer pics on cam. About 3 weeks ago We moved the feeder 20' from its original location and also move the stand to get a better view of the northern section. we did some limb trimming also. since we made these changes I have yet to get one deer on cam in 3 weeks. I dont know if its the changes that scared the deer off, or scent or just coincidence but I'm thinking that if we leave the stand alone until season that the deer should start coming back to the stand. We had planned to mow the overgrown hay field and put in a food plot along the tree line. I'm worried that if I wait til September to do this that I may scare the deer off again and the stand will be a bust this season. The reason we want to do the food plot is that this area isn't a natural travel area for the deer and we want to give them a reason to come to the stand.

so what do you guys think? on a new stand will mowing, and putting in a plot scare the deer away?

I don't think it will push any deer off. If anything it'll bring more in...

How much rain can you expect? Save the money and add another feeder, they are drought proof

Do a combo... Just disk and plant strips not the whole field

Mechanical things like mowing/plowing/planting are not things that run deer off...plant your food plot and get ready....

Think you can/Think you can't/Either way you're right

good idea... we usually plant the edges so they can stay next to thick cover and feed.

I've never heard of a food plot that repels deer. Go for it!
