Is this correct, to ship a handgun in Texas

1. must ship to buyers FFL?

2. Must ship overnight from a Fed-Ex Hub, like the one in Addison?

Buzz,

Posters above are correct. Best and cheapest way is to take to your FFL and let them ship to buyers FFL.

USPS will be cheapest by far. UPS and FedEx have gotten pretty steep.

Between two residents of Texas, there is zero requirement to involve an FFL holder.

Not exactly a correct statement.

Only rifles and shotguns in same state. OP is wanting to ship a handgun.

This is why this topic keeps coming up...spread of bad info.

Nobody said a private citizen could ship handguns through the USPS, intelligent people know they can not, but they CAN legally ship.using UPS or FedEx, and there is STILL nothing about a sale between two Texas residents that requires the use of an FFL.

The bad info in this case is coming from you.

Quote
May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her or her own state or to a licensee in any state. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.

In addition, federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm or ammunition, prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm and requires obtaining written acknowledgement of receipt.

That's not what is being discussed. The FFL to FFL is going to be the best and cheapest route because the FFL CAN use the USPS. Medium flat rate box...~ $20. Private citizen CANNOT.

UPS or FedEx will charge you approx. $70-$100 to ship the handgun becuase they will make you send it next day service. Keeping up?

In summary you are correct via common carrier but it's NOT the best or cheapest method.

Well, bless your heart!

I said nothing about costs... nor is that what you took issue with in my post.

It's only now that you've been proven wrong, you try to jump to a differen track.

Let's hope you have a better tomorrow.

USPS.......really?

What good is shipping the cheapest carrier if there are good odds the package won't get there.

I wonder if you could strip a firearm and ship the parts separately? For example, a 1911 has 7 parts, best I remember.

If the ATF declares a stripped AR lower as a "firearm". I would think they would call a pistol frame the same.

That would be the part where the serial # is. I wonder if that's the only part considered a firearm? I'm just curious, I have no intentions of shipping or receiving a firearm.

That's correct.

The frame IS the "firearm" as far as the law is concerned. It still has to go through the same process as a whole gun.

That's why you can ship all the other parts at will, no problem.
