Desert Eagle makes a good one. They are big, heavy guns. No personal experience with the .357, just the 44.

I have a Sig Sauer P229 in .357 Sig. Is that what you are referring to?

Go with a 10mm more powerful more rounds, i.e Springfield XD in 10mm. 16 rounds of holy sheet!

Coonan revived for awhile and made some pretty nice 1911 .357's.

I do think they went out of business in 2019 though.

They are still out there, but pretty pricey. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/891602641

.357 mag I’ve consolidated to this as my only handgun caliber because I can also get lever action rifle to match

If you can stomach buying a Taurus (some can't) you would probably be better off finding one of the 7 or 8-shot revolvers that they made. I used to have a 7-shot and it was a solid gun.

Better have big hands because it's a long way around the grip to reach the trigger.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I’ll see if I get out my Coonan (new production) tomorrow, but as far as I remember, I can’t shoot it very well...

Fit and finish is ok, maybe some edges seem too sharp, maybe the slide seems to wiggle a little bit much at the front end of the dust cover. Also, the back end of the frame (rails) protrudes about a millimeter or so past the rear end of the slide, and the finish wears a little too easily... I guess for a $3000 gun, all this would be unacceptable, but considering it was half that price, and a specialty gun I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on a few years ago, I was fine with that...

The trigger is amazing, the safety is smooth but engages and disengages with very positive, audible and tactile clicks. It has fixed night sights marked “KENSIGHT” and with the other standard Trijicon markings, which happen to work well and offer a great sight picture.

The gun feels wonderful in my hands... and I just can’t shoot the darned thing! But my dad can, and he blames it on the sights being so good... but he does complain the thing is too big.

Did I mention it’s loud? I think it’s louder than my S&W 4” model 19, I mean, all .357 mags are loud, but this one seems louder for sure.

It also does this cool “ring of fire” thing, go look it up on YouTube, it’s pretty cool.

I don’t think I’ve shot it enough for it to be broken in yet. As of last time I shot it, it occasionally had trouble cycling. Maybe it was too dry, maybe it needs more rounds down the pipe, I’m not sure, but I was using Federal Premium 158gr loads that feel stout enough in my revolvers...

I guess I’ll leave this as an incomplete review and see how I like it after shooting it a bit more. I’ll get back to y’all!

Have fun, be safe.

357 mag is my favorite caliber. I currently own 3 357 rifles, and 3 357 revolvers. 357 was the first round that i reloaded.
I love the 357. Magnum research and Coonan were the only two seriously successful 357 mag semi autos. Magnum research is big and clunky. The Coonan is sweet. A buddy of mine has a Coonan and I envy him. The biggest problem with Coonan is the company couldn't figure out how to run a business. They could make a good gun, but couldn't get out of the poor house. They are bankrupt now. If you want to spend a fortune, you can get a Coonan. If Coonan ever gets back in business and the prices come back down to $1500, I'll buy one in a heartbeat. Otherwise, you're better off buying a pair of Ruger revolvers.

10mm does have mystical powers.

I've got a Coonan in .357 Mag. PM me if you'd like to discuss.

Which part?

The mystical powers of the 10mm, or the often-repeated "more powerful than a 357 when we cherry pick loads"??

Either way, 16 rounds vs. what 8? And as powerful as a .357....(feel better now)?

Cant get on board with the 10 mm, its like a 6.5 creed, plenty of other calibers that that do the same thing If a 40 aint enough get a 45.... Flame on

Palmetto State Armory has a pretty good stock of it and they will ship it right to you.
