Building a New Home and trying to decide on what type wood flooring we want, thinking of putting it all through the house... We’ve got 2 young boys, so being tough and water resistant / proof is a big help. I see there are Vinyl, Laminate, Engineered, and then real wood types. I’m pretty much out on real wood just because of the durability with scratches and such. We are leaning toward Engineered at this time, I think it looks good and has more texture (Looks more Real)... Anyway if anyone has tips or help on that I’d love to hear some input. Appreciate it!

Water resistant and engineered just don’t go. The face is waterproof but if you spill water and it gets in the seam, that stuff will swell like crazy.
SA that stuff is awesome too. Good call.

I really like the look of the tile and yours looks great... I was hoping to stay away from grout lines is all I was thinking, for cleaning. I’m still not ruling that out though! Appreciate your help!

If you’re building it, I assume you plan on being there a while. Buy once/cry once and real wood is timeless imho. Hand scraped/distressed hardwood floors are tough as heck. Very water resistant, bumps and dings or scratches easily hidden or repaired. They can be re-finished. Yada Yada.

I don't have any experiences with it but have you looked into a good quality bamboo flooring? I've had family that's used it and it's supposed to be very hardy.

The grout lines are much tighter and a non-issue as far as cleaning. We have two dogs that go in and out many times a day, and this wood look tile is still so easy to keep. I bought a Rigid shop vac that is kind of small, but about 6 HP and a real high CFM. My wife sweeps daily. I run this vac once in a while. We mop once in a while. If I had it my way there wouldn't be one stitch of carpet in the house.

I really like the porcelain tile that looks like wood. I’m starting a rehab in Richardson and I think we are going to lean that direction this time. If we like it enough we will probably do our home the same way afterwards. Skylar Mac on here has some pretty good pricing, just not sure if he has enough of this particular one for the job. I’m waiting to hear back from him and then we will probably make a decision. Looks like he has others to choose from as well.

The tile even has textured wood grain now. I have two dogs, and never have to worry about any damage. Installation is pretty pricey, especially if you have to demo old tile, but I think its worth it.

Pic of our tile floor. I have almost the same flooring in my house too, porcelain tile with textured dark wood grains. I really like it. It's durable too, unless you drop a cast iron skillet on it like I did and chip it. It's water proof also. All I had to do was mop the floor after Harvey flooded it, good as new.

We went with the tile that looks like wood when we built a few years ago and love it. This tile cost more than similar tiles that look like wood, but we really like the look. The tile in our budget that looked like wood was not near the quality as this tile. If I didn`t do the tile I would go with the engineered wood for sure.

Our last house was built in 1930 and had the original red oak hardwoods. Putting New England Pine in the new build. Not much that's more durable than real wood.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I’ve got laminate in mine now. Longevity wise I wouldn’t do it again. It’s not that old and looks pretty bad. I’m planning on tearing up all of it and the tile and going wood look tile. With kids and dogs I think it’s the only way.

We put a distressed wood look tile in 4 years ago...it is unbelievable. I have had guest lean over to touch it because they do not believe it is tile.
We had engineered wood in the entry originally, within 2 years it was looking rough from the dog's claws.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Had engineered wood out in our old place because we wanted something durable and it didn’t take long for that top veneer to start coming apart. Had it repaired and restained scratches out but still not as durable as I expected. Current house looking at ceramic wood planks like SA Hunter and a few others have. We have a friend who has it with kids and dogs looks good as new after a few years of abuse.
Don't take life so seriously, you'll never make it out alive!

I can't stand on them barefoot for long before it pains my feet. I can walk on concrete barefoot all day, something about the ceramic.

I need to do some flooring too. How does cost compare. Is the tile substantially more than wood or engineered wood? And OP, I have stained concrete. I like it except it does show marks where chairs sit or get scooted out from a table. I stained mine and coated with a product call Touchdown. It's shiny. Concrete is an easy keeper. If you're managing costs, it's a good solution. I'd go with wood if budget allowed.
