...until I reviewed my cameras this week. I had killed the boar a week ago, and the coyotes had moved the carcass to being in front of the camera. In the video the hog never comes closer to the camera, so I don't know but I suspect another boar. There is a one minute lag between videos. I can't for sure say the pig is eating the carcass but I am going to go on a limb and say it is based on behavior. The pigs never even came close to the pumpkins I had put out. Anyway, I found the sequence interesting and I hope you do too. https://youtu.be/y5VLQKnrajE

They don’t call it “eating like a pig” for no reason. I was on a HF youth hunt and saw what hogs can do to a freshly shot deer after 3-5 hours. They had eaten him up to his shoulders. Felt sorry for the young hunter who had to do a rather unique pose to show off the front half of her deer. Charlie

Hogs can be big time predators. Hunted a ranch one year that the goats along the creek the owner would put in pens at night to keep the hogs not the coyotes from killing and eating them. even the "domestic" hogs will eat meat and they seem to like pork, I have seen more than one killed and eaten at hog farms. One large sow my Uncle had in the 70s if she got to another sows piglets she would kill and eat them. She got over the fence on her last day alive and killed and ate some. Guess she had developed a taste for meat.

Many years ago I shot the biggest hog I have ever seen. The rancher had told us that if we saw this particular hog, kill him but do NOT wound him, became nobody wanted to track this wounded monster. So, I’m in this ground blind and a nice 8 point buck showed up, and I dropped him. Well, nothing to do but sit there till they came to get me. And here came some small pigs and then some larger pigs, and after a while here comes this monster hog. Enormous. While I was working up the nerve to shoot him, the hog goes over to my 8 point and picks the entire deer up in his jaws. Not the slightest doubt he was gonna eat the deer, though I shot him before he could.

Hogs ate this Donkey carcass when nothing else would touch it. I have video of a single boar eating 9 nuisance squirrels that I had killed and placed out to see if I could get some video of Coyotes/Fox/Other. Ate them completely, tails and all. So yes... they will scavenge and also kill and eat what they can. IF there is one calorie in something, a hog will eat it.

I was headed to my lease in Leakey at night one year. As I was driving near Medina, I came around the corner and saw a large boar eating the guts out of an axis doe roadkill. As I approached, he pulled his head out of her stomach and it was completely covered in blood. It looked horrible. Another time I killed a boar that was eating an aoudad carcass left behind by my cousin the week before.

We lost a calf a few weeks ago and I put a trail cam up to see what came into the area to scavenge. The camera got pushed around by other cattle, so no good photos of anything feasting on the calf, but there are tons of photos of hogs milling about in the immediate area, so I assume they were feeding on the carcass.

From my experience, hogs eat everything except for the hooves in S Texas if not pressured. When it comes to a carcass going away, pigs do it best. About to take my Daughter's boyfriend hunting soon. Looking forward to it.

As I understand it, this is why hogs can carry parasites such as round worm. It is spread by eating infected meat. Other animals that eat meat can get it, think also of bears and raccoons. Even though I wash my coolers, I have a separate cooler just for hogs. If you mix hog/deer in a cooler, don't serve it rare.

The first hog I killed, in about '83, was carrying a dead doe in its mouth like a cat carrying a kitten. Didn't know much about feral pigs at the time, neither did the processor of said pig. It was horrible sausage! Like eating a mouthful of BB's! Since then I've learned which to eat and which to leave.

I've heard of this type activity before but never seen it. This makes me want to start putting cameras on dead hogs

Sometimes a picture tells the story. The hog that has been "sleeping" for 2 weeks just now became an interest. We've had several sounders of hogs eating all around the sleepy one but they left him alone....until now

We had an old bull die and shot several pigs eating on the carcass. Glad they did, not enough buzzards in the county to clean that up.

Hogs will most definitely eat each other alive. They like to bite on tails if nothing else around interests them. Once the blood gets flowing, they will continue to suck and eat on the tail. The host hog gets an infection, slows down, and then they keep eating on that hog right up through the spinal column and ham until it dies. Some particular hogs really have a taste for blood, and it does follow genetics of the parent hogs. I have seen this from years of raising hogs when I was younger. Being in a confined space definitely stokes the behavior, but dirt raised and open pasture hogs show this behavior as well. They also like the crunch and taste of bones. I had no doubt that if I ever became incapacitated in a pen of hogs, that they would eat me.

I usually go sit on the gut pile a couple hours after shooting something and about 1/2 the time there will be a another pig eating on it. Last summer, got to watch a big boar kill a shoat and carry it off,

They will eat you if you stay still long enough. I've watched a big boar eat his own testicles right after my brother in law and I castrated him.
