I'm in the market for a Citori 12ga for skeet, trap and occasionally sporting clays. This will be an upgrade from an older winchester over/under. I'm perfectly fine spending the money for a nice shotgun, but is the 725 line worth the extra money? They certainly look nicer and have more accenting and better wood. Thoughts, anyone?

I don't have a CX, but I do own a 725 Sporting and am very happy with it. In the long run, i don't think you'll regret the extra cash if you can make it happen.

I'd also recommend buying a used one. I was never a browning guy so I can't speak to the difference but know from experience you can find a lightly used entry level trap/skeet/sc gun at a pretty deep discount from someone looking to upgrade.

thanks for the input. I've heard a used one is a good option. Any good places that are dedicated to selling/trading shotguns? I've noticed that forum classifieds such as this one are hit and miss.

shotgunworld as for brick and mortor Mcbrides in Austin usually has a large selection of used O/U's.

I have a CSX with an adjustable comb and would highly recommend it... Kind of a hybrid between Skeet-Sporting gun.

With that being said, my shooting buddy has a 725 Sporting. I borrowed it for a couple rounds and wouldn't shy away spending the extra cash on one should something happen to my CSX.

You really need to handle both of them, because there are some fit-feel differences between the two.

Try joel etchen. They are primarily a Beretta dealer but have an assortment of shotguns to look from. Have bought a used gun from them and would not hesitate to do it again. Great guys to work with.

Fit and feel would dictate which I bought. If you have some people you shoot with that own them, shoot both and go from there.

Any input on the quality of the Cynergy series over the Citori? I was not aware of them. They look nice. How do they compare?

I am sure that the Cynergy is a fine field gun, but it is pretty light for a sporting gun. Looks like their website is down at the moment so I can't give exact numbers. The couple that I handled at the store seemed lighter than the 686 SP1 that I ended up buying and selling within a few months.

Again, fit and feel are going to be up to you, but my opinion, it is too light for a target gun.

Too bad you are not any closer. I'd let you shoot a round with my gun.

Every day I go hunting I pick up my cynergy and leave the benellis in the safe. It is a fit issue mostly.

Ive never owned a citori. I owned a superposed from the 50s for awhile. I loved it But I sold it because it didn't fit me correctly, or I didn't it, whichever is the right way to say that.

My cynergy fits me perfectly and it's become second nature to point

I hunted one duck season with a Cynergy...I tried like hell to shoot that gun and we just didn't get along. I sold it and went back to my Beretta 391.

725 is a nice shotgun, buy it. That is a gun that will be in your family for generations and a few hundred more you won't even notice in 5 years. I say that and I'm assuming by your comments it felt better, if the CX feels better than buy it. The feel and fit of a shotgun far out weighs any other reason to own one.

Visit a clay course and you'll see for yourself many 725's, the 725 is a reliable and well made gun to handle the Clay course abuse. My vote, go with the Browning 725 without question.
