Its good to hear about Kansas and South Dakota but I get a thrill to hear and see pictures about our Texas wild pheasants. Hopefully we will get a report.

From what I have heard, I don't think it is too good. A buddy of mine usually does a hunt in the panhandle in decent years, but called around and the outfitters are having to do released birds to augment etc. and decided to not go this year. Converting grain crops into cotton based on bushel pricing has hurt the population in panhandle over the past 5 years, certainly made it harder to find concentration of birds.

Our hunt last weekend was mixed. It was above average Saturday. We found birds hunkered around barns, hay bales and in tall CRP, probably because the wind was up a little. Sunday morning was a different story. The birds were wise to us and vacated the scene. Also had four very nice covies of Bobs.
We sure had fun though and the dogs hunted better this year for us.

Its really sad for the dogs about the bobs.

We also cancelled our traditional pheasant opener due to lack of birds around the areas we have access to. Really sad.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

My group of 5 got our 1 day limit this past weekend. It took us 3 days to get it. We covered a lot of area to get it. We could of had more but we wanted to leave some for next year. Not one Bobwhite was located and we only bumped 3 coveys of Blues.

There are so few wild pheasant left in the texas panhandle its hardly worth hunting. Id imagine as many of these bird reports as not are planted birds that evaded hunters. I called every bird breeder up here looking for birds and they were all out. I quizzed them about numbers of birds sold. Youre talking about TENS OF THOUSANDS of released birds in a relatively small area.
