Looking to get a pop up blind and being in college I cant buy a double bull yet; can you suggest a good pop up blind for both bow hunting and gun hunting.

Big enough for 2 people and priced right.....

Or do you have one for sale? shoot me over a PM

the future father-in-law bought one last season incase the ag dept didn't have our new box stands built by opening weekend...I believe it is an API (could be wrong), but I hunted in it with a "chick" and there was plenty of room for both of us.

I have been using Double Bull blinds for many years and I won't use anything less. I just sent off one of my blinds because after 4 years of nearly constant use year around it got some tears in the roof and the netting needed replaced. Double Bull is fixing it all and just charging me the shipping. I can't beat that. I have used cheaper fabric blinds but I haven't seen one yet that will make it all year around in Texas moving to different setups in mesquite brush and oak trees. When I used some Ameristep blinds they didnt' stand by their warranty at all and I had that blind for less than 60 days before it got tears and rips and faded material. I went to Double Bull and haven't used anything less. I own three of them now and well worth the price for each one. You get what you pay for out of a Double Bull, that's for sure. Two occasions I have had broken rods. One was a fault of mine, backed over it in the Gator. The other was a case where a hog had decided to have some fun with it. I made the call to them and in 4 days I had new hubs and rods at no charge sent to me.

Most people just hunting the regular seasson probably can get by with a much cheaper blind. But for what I do, I can's see using anything less for a pop up blind.

I used an Eastman from academy last year and will use it again this year and it appeared to hold up very well.

I've bought 4 and still use three. If bow hunting, I would try to find one with windows in the corners to accommodate full draw and increased visibility and at least 5'x5'. I do love pop ups

Double Bull's are fine but they are way too expensive. I can buy 4 of the blinds that I use for the price of one Double Bull. Plus I like a floor in my pop-up blinds and Double Bull doesn't offer a blind with a floor. I use the Ameristep Doghouse TSC. It is large enough to bowhunt out of, holds up well, has a floor and costs a fraction of the higher end blinds. I buy mine on Ebay.

Probably true if your not hunting as much as I am. But quality to quality, its really tough to be a Double bull. That thin plastic or vinyl stuff that Ameristep makes their blinds from once melted together on me while it was in the bag in the back of the truck one summer. Sent it in to get replaced..NOPE...they said that was my fault.

Heck I backed over my Double Bull blind with my truck and broke several of the rods and ruined two hubs. I called them told them exactly what happened and they sent me the new parts free of charge and in less than 4 days I had it. No way you can beat Double Bull service. You may beat their price, but you get what you pay for.

Nope, because I spent more than that on several blinds with Eastman and Ameristep and some of Primos own stuff. None of them made it thru a year of hunting. Look, if you just hunt maybe 20-40 days in a deer season and a few times at the ranch or lease for hogs or something the rest of the year it might work for you. But I'm speaking from what I do as my job and how I use this blind. And there are times Its out there set up for nearly 4 months straight thru the hot Texas summer months. If anything will test your blind, the Texas hot summer will. I've had them melt together to plastic flimsy rods snap, to taking forever to get parts or any kind of warranty service. They all seemed to fail in comparison to what Double Bull offers me in service. I just can't beat it. If I have to travel somewhere to go get another blind on short notice, I'm traveling 78 miles AT LEAST and thats one way. That's going to take a lot of time out of my day to mess with that. I want to get it right the first time and not have any damn troubles again. IF I had to go with a cheaper one I'd pick that Primos Ground Max. It's a good material although thinner than the Double Bull Dark Horse blinds it will hold up OK and they should give good service on it. I think I was told its only warranted for a year when I bought my second Dark Horse blind. I could be wrong on that, just call them and ask about it.

Two responses to this. First, time in the blind doesn't really wear it out. Time in the field for the blind does. Second, I hunt more than most and generally spend 30+ days hunting between the beginning of October and the end of December. My Ameristeps last at least 2 years and sometimes 3. That is leaving them out for the entire season. So if they cost 1/4 as much and they last on average 2.5 years then a Double Bull would have to last over 10 years to be comparable to the Ameristep. I highly doubt that they will last for 10 years in the field.

Realize that I use them a lot more than what you are talking about. It's still warm in October. But that's not the same as using them thru an entire summer season and the hot Texas sun will really put your pop up blind to a test on the fading of the camo colors and its durability. That is only a small portion of how long I use mine. I go a complete year using them nearly every week and when they are out, they are set up for weeks to months at a time before being taken down and set up somewhere else.

But I do feel what your saying about the cost. And yes it is cheaper. But that is all that it makes the Ameristep blind...CHEAPER. Not better. And to me that transaltes into their poor choice of materials, design and customer service that they offered to me. They did not hold up to my expectations and I will never use that companies pop up blind product again.

That being said, I am currently trying out some new blinds that are more affordable than Double Bull's blind. I got a chance to talk with the guys from Rhino Lab's not long ago at the TTHA Extravaganza show in Houston. I looked at the blind and I was impressed. Same warranty as DB and I really like the camo pattern as I am familiar with it and it blends in with oaks, hackberry, elms, mesquite, and prickly pear cactus very well. Their windows system with the removable shoot thru mesh and two different set up sides of the blind are really appealing to what bow hunters need. The only thing I would really like to see is for them to make a taller blind for traditional bow hunters in the future.

As for how long my DB have lasted. I still have a DB blind that has been in my possesion and use every year since 2003. They do last. As far as Ameristep...well...gee..it lasted from the store to the back of my truck for the trip out to the javelina hunt and that was about it. The material stuck together and it was ruined before its first set up.

Whatever you say Curtis. Opinions are like.........well, let's just say that we all have them including you and me. I've had Double Bulls. The rats eat on those the same as they eat on every other pop-up you put out. As for the fading, I don't mind and the deer don't seem to mind. I shot my 6.5 year old 136" last year out of a blind that had faded to pink. The deer don't care. As for your DB that you've had since 2003.........if it lasts 4 more years in at least average condition then I'll promise you I will go out and buy a DB that day!

Hey no problem. I like good customer service with whatever product I buy and a company that will stand behind what they make. DB has done just that thus far for many years. I don't care if the product costs less. It still better do the same job or even better and the manufacturer stand behind it 100% with service.
