Hey all, this my first time posting here. I am an avid hog hunter, normally with my dogs. I'd rather run dogs than anything else, but I hunt pretty often with a bow too. Just thought I'd post up some pictures from a recent dog hunt with my wife and boy. Had a pretty good hunt this morning, took my wife and son with me and dropped dogs at about six this morning while it was still cool. The first couple turnouts were uneventful, so I went to a part of the property that I haven’t hunted much. I turned out on a likely looking trail and had a bay going in a few minutes, so I loaded Cason back up in the pickup and drove as close to it as I could, but we were still a couple hundred yards away from the dogs. We got the catch dog out of the pickup and started making our way down to the bay, I went on ahead, and found them bayed in a creek. I let the catch dog go, heard him hit and made my way in. The creek had a very slick rock bottom, and my feet slid out from under me once I got in the water and my legs slid under the hog so things got kinda crazy for a little bit. (Gotta love a good catch dog!) Once I got myself back right side up, I got the hog legged and stuck him. Erin and Cason got there just as everything was winding down. They heard everything, but had trouble with some of the brush on the way down so they were just making it there as the two strike dogs were rolling out again. Erin held the catch dog and help dog while I moved the hog to the bank of the creek. Not sure what he weighed, I’m guessing about 160 or a little better, for some reason he looks smaller in the pictures, and not much for cutters. Just enough to send my Blue dog to the vet. Nothing too serious, he'll be ok in a few days. Glad the camera worked this time. Me and Cason with the hog. He was a lot better looking before I drug him through the mud. This boar had a really long tail. The whole family with the hog.

I always love to see a father doing things with his kids. Not all of us have access to places to hunt with them, so take advantage of it, they grow up so fast. Great job.

I don't mind a bit, this hog was caught in central texas, in northern Lampasas county, where I normally hunt, but I'm always looking for new places, you know how that goes. Have dogs will travel! Yes, that is blood in the water behind us. that is the creek he bayed up in. that little pool is sort of bowl shaped, the dogs were caught in the center with the hog, which is why I slid so much when I fell. When I legged him he fell on one of the shallow edges so I just stuck him right there.

i'm sure I have seen you as well, sucks that it took me this long to find this site, I like how diverse it is.
thanks guys for all the comments. big daddy, I think part of it may be the angle of the camera, combined with the colors on the hogs face, but this guy did have a very long, flat sloping head and a straight tail. he was about as far from domestic looking as you can get and not be a european hog I think. just not much for cutters.

i would guess somewhere between 160 and 180 lbs. I had to pack him out in quarters, so I never got to weigh him.

That hog is European mix There was one killed on my property last november and we sent pics to the tpw and they identified it based on the flat slope of the head and elongated snout. New to the forum and saw the pics you're nuts bro but well done.

Something strange about this post or pig. The coloring and long tail look like an African Bush Pig, or a bush pig cross. See refrence photo off an African Safari website. Sooo... whats up here? African genes loose in the Texas pool?
