I've been hunting this ranch in SE Duval County for over 25 yrs. I have contributed more work, time, and money there than anyone else that hunts there. The owner is a liberal democrat with a bad case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. I learned years ago not to talk anything related to politics or religion down there. I was just there with my kids hunting and couldn't help but notice the Biden/Harris sign stuck in the ground at camp. The owner told one of the other guys that he was going to put that sign right there at camp just to see who he could pizz off, knowing that our whole hunting party (minus one) are all Trump supporters. OK, he's poking at us so before I left yesterday I decided to poke back. All in good fun I thought. I stuck two Trump bumper stickers over Biden & Harris. Owner comes to the ranch today, sees this, and has an absolute meltdown. He is genuinely angry at me and tells me not to come back to the ranch. Just like that I'm kicked off. I was planning on heading back down there in the morning for a couple days to fill feeders, mow, and cut limbs & brush (alone again as usual) but now that ain't happening. My kids and I really like being down there, and we've made a lot of good memories over the years. In hindsight I wish I would have just left it alone. What I thought was just going to be some chit talking and ribbing back & forth has just costed me a place to take my kids hunting. He actually kicked me off over this. SMH.

We don't pay outright for the lease. Our group earns our keep by keeping the place up year round, and of course paying for everything hunting related and sharing the meat. It was a pretty sweet deal. I've been on a bunch of different paid leases but this was always home base.

Where he put the sign shows he's pathological. Out by the blacktop, in front of his house, on the road in, no problem. Deliberately in his hunter's camp, that he knows are Trump supporters, shows he was looking for this kind of show-down, whether you put the bumper stickers on there on not. He ain't right in the head (way beyond just politics) and, if I were you, I'd have probably gotten off after this season anyways.

A lot of ranch owners can be uppity dipsheets, just 'cause they were lucky enough to buy (or usually inherit) property. And, from my experience, the most bombastic, opinionated, fools, if you check around a little, don't own the place outright by themselves; there's a lot more family involved. They have to puff up 'cause they've got "self-esteem" issues.

Man, I'm sorry to hear that you lost your lease over some ribbing. Most people just take themselves way too seriously these days. I have a hunting buddy that politics aside is a really good guy. We have civil conversations and poke fun at each other from time to time but there is a mutual respect.
