Does anyone have experience with pheasant hunting in the Panhandle. What towns or organizations can you recommend for setting up a pheasant hunt? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I have heard anything north of Amarillo is generally good, but that is just what I've heard. I need to give it a try one of these days.

Most small towns in the panhandle have an opening weekend hunt. I know towns like Hart, Olton, Cotton Center, and probably many more. Most of these are organized by Lions Clubs or some other type of organization in the community. I don't have any contact info for you though. Hereford area is usually good. Bird numbers will hopefully be up from last year. Rain has been better for the most part. Good luck in your search.

Just about every small town in the panhandle will do something. Send an email to the chamber of commerce in places like Hereford, Vega, Dumas, Dimmitt, Borger, Pampa.. And ask to get included on any mailers they send out. Usually see advertising start around labor day. And copy us if you find any good deals..

Try contacting this chamber. I guess they have a big pheasant hunt every year. Not too far from Lubbock either. For what its worth.

Send me a PM - I hook you up in Parmer Co. Just talked to my nephew today, he's seeing a lot of chicks.

Tim Ballinger runs an operation in Dumas... I went with him last year and saw more birds than you could shake a stick at. If you want more info shoot me a PM... hes reasonably priced also.

+1 on Tim. I've never seen as many birds as I have with Tim. He makes it seem easy. You can search my old posts for some pictures, or some of Tim's old posts (he goes by Shorthair on the forum).

if you are looking to go and find birds on your own I went up hunting in Hart last year. Contact their chamber of commerce for info on it. Go up early though of have dogs the hunting was hard last year. They have a permit you can buy for I think its somewhere between $45-$100 and they give you a map of where you can go. You can hunt as many times and as often as you want on these specific tracts of land. I know the price is a little higher on opening weekend but they also provide a meal opening morning and maybe both saturday and sunday. I'm not exactly sure.

+1 on Tim. Great guy to deal with. plus his rates are affordable.
If you want to try it on your own, contact the Hart, Texas Chamber. They put on an annual hunt every here. Usually a decent hunt. You just need to get on the list early if you want to hunt the opener.

Just talked to my nephew in Parmer Co. (southwest of Hereford) and he said he's seeing lots of chicks and adult birds. Better than last year. If anyone is interested let me know. I've always gotten my limit by noon on opening weekend.

From what I've read and personal experience, you're probably going to have a better hunt with a guide than with the COC/Lions Club hunts. Heard more complaints than recommendations on those. I've had good luck around Spearman and generally prefer the northern panhandle over the south plains. I know this info is generic but hope its helps a little.

Northern panhandle is best, Stratford Texas is supposed to be the pheasant capitol of Texas, although i've never known of anyone to do guided hunts from there. Parmer county ain't bad, i too have seen more than usual hens with chicks there. i hunt both places.

I grew up in Amarillo. I have hunted around Amarillo allot. South of Amarillo, Hereford,Tulia, Plainview, Lubbock. the I-27 corridor to Lubbock is good in places. Also north of Amarillo.....Stratford, Sunray, Perryton, Spearman, Dalhart, Dumas. The Kiwanas Club puts on hunts every year. They serve you breakfest and then take you out to hunt. I haven't seen any walk in places like Kansas or other states have just yet. Of couse, you could use an outfitter. If you know people, thats the best way. Pheasant Populations have been on the rise. There's been years I haven't seen too many and other years I have. I think the right amount of moisture is key to a good hatch, along with minor damage from hail, predators, and extreme drought. The last few years has been spotty.

I have seen TONS of birds when driving 87 between happy and canyon that is all private land, though you might be able to track down a land owner and get permission- like mentioned above stratford has or did the last time I was up there a big sign as you enter town stating it is the pheasant capital of texas.

I hunt up in Hereford every other year or so, friends have some property out there. Good hunting around the tail water pits and what's left of the CRP. Don't know about any outfitters though.

Hart Lions club has one of the biggest up there. They have lots of land to hunt, and generally have lots of birds. Look up Fat Boy Outdoors on here or go to www.fatboyoutdoors.com I think they guide some hunts. Let me know closer to that time and I'll put you onto somebody good. I grew up in ditch chicken country and dad still lives up there. He always finds the birds...
