We’re out at Matador for the youth quail hunt. Five very tired dogs. Three stove up old guys. One teenager that still has energy Two birds in the bag. One covey of only 4 birds. One slight larger covey that came up before we were in position.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

One small covey this morning, with no birds harvested.
That’s a lot of dog miles with little bird contact
I don’t see us come back next weekend.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

Dang. Thanks for the information.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Regardless of the counts, you can hope the results in the field are better than the predictions. Looks like that will not be the case in the panhandle
Talked to a father and son that hunted Saturday morning and afternoon, plus this morning with no bird contact.
We Talked to Chip, the biologist for that neck of the woods. He said Gene Howe would likely be about the same.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

See any mule deer bucks of any size? If so, which pasture? No antlers, a couple of does.... We were not hunting the areas we typically see the most deer in. Saw one of the biggest bobcats I have ever seen...damn near as big as my Brittany.
We all need to practice Whoa more.
