On 08/19 at about 8:00 am I went into surgery. Approx 6 hours later I was taken to ICU for recovery. I don’t remember much except being on a ventilator. My hands were tied to the bed to keep me from pulling it out. I remember being so thirsty, sweat pouring from, and choking. Thank god for the drugs I was on. At about 7am the next morning I was pulled off the ventilator and started breathing on my own. What a relief!!

Now I start the road to recovery. They had me up the first day sitting in a chair. I also walked around the nurses station but headed back to bed. My first steps. From then on, as I got better, a piece of equipment was removed. The big relief was having the drain tube taken out of my chest. I was told of the depression that comes with this and it’s no joke. You can get in a very dark place. On the following Tuesday I was released.

Being home has been my best recovery time. I’m walking twice a day for 10 min each. My wife has been a champ through this. Helping me keep my meds together, cooking heart healthy meals, protecting me not only physically but mentally as well. I also want to thank all you on here who sent me prayers, thoughts, and support. It helped more than you know. I hope one day I can return the favor.
