While helping our FD put out a brush fire Thursday, I developed chest pains. EMT checked me out and after an EKG transported me to the hospital. I was feeling better and ready to go home. After drawing blood the dr advised i had a heart attack. Went to Baylor Scott and white Lakeway where they ran a Cath in my heart. Found 40 to 90 percent blockage on 3 veins. I’m now scheduled for open heart on Tuesday. My question is, what kind of ordeal am I and my wife looking at? Yeah, I’m scared. I just don’t know what to expect.

Probably will be fully healed by hunting season, if not before. And you’ll get all the great hospital food while you’re in there - jello, plastic green beans, etc.

Co-worker had open heart surgery this summer to replace his aortic valve. He was back at work in 7 weeks.
Best of luck to you.

After the surgery my father-in-law said he hadn't felt that good in years, didn't realize how the blockages had pulled him down. Hoping for a fast recovery but take it slow.
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I have always heard the surgery is a breeze but people get major depression after open heart surgery and sure enough one of the guys i work with came down with a major case of it. Good luck my friend with your surgery and make sure you have a good support system afterwards.

Prayers for a speedy recovery. Be glad it happened with medical team around. I know you said open heart surgery, but maybe they can fix you up with non evasive cath and stints. Amazing what they can do these days. Good luck and keep us updated best you can.

Glad it happened with medical team there. Prayers up for a fully successful operation and you will feel better after it. Within 2 weeks I was walking a couple miles at a time.
Cath and stents are sometimes a great option, much less invasive but there are times bypass surgery is a better option.
I had bypass surgery a couple years ago. Some things to expect.
Follow your Dr orders and do not over do anything.
After surgery you will be in the hospital for 3 days to a week usually. I had mine done on Tuesday Morning and went home Friday afternoon. You will be sore and limited movement for a while and on weight restrictions for a while nothing over 8 lbs to be picked up. You will get a pillow or bear or something to hold against your chest when sitting up, standing moving in genera, it will become your constant companion for a couple weeks at least after the surgery.
Do not expect to be allowed to drive for at least 6 weeks while the bone and incision heal. Also there will be weeks of rehab. Expect a little discomfort for a long time along and on both sides of the incision but is gets better with time.
Sent you a PM if you want to talk.

That’s exactly what my Dad said after he had a few stints put in. OP, will be prayin’ for ya. Just pay attention to what your body tells ya, and listen when it says slow it down

Have no idea of what the post surgery recovery and timeline looks like, but seems others have gone through it. I just hope and pray all goes well and you are back better than before, sooner than expected! Prayers up for you and your family, sir!

Prayers for a quick and full recovery. I know several folks that have had it done and they said it really amazed them in how much better they felt and how much more energy they had. Follow your doctors orders and complete all of PT. Their biggest complaint was pain where they took the veins out of their legs.

I had bypass surgery 4 years ago. Not a piece of cake, but I made it through it all.
