I have a Pelican and really like it. Great ice chest but it weighs 40 lbs empty. It's a beast when loaded with ice and drinks. Is there a non-rotomolded ice chest that is worth buying or are they all junk? The last couple of Igloos I've bought have broke or warped after a short time. Basically a waste of money.

I cannot say. I only have Rtic's at this point as the igloo's were no bueno. They are heavy but they will last so longevity over cost worked 2cents

Igloo Maxcold. I also like the Coleman Xtreme but the lid doesn't have latches so if it tumps over all your chit comes out.

Bison's are lighter than equivalent sized competitors.

I have a lot of ice chest and use to only buy Igloo, but the last couple I bought sucked the hinges kept breaking and the quality for that price point was just not there anymore.
I bought a a 48 quart and 150 quart Coleman, have not used the 150 but it seems well constructed, the 48 so far I like it other than there is no hinge to lock the opening of the lid but it secures itself nicely and no problems so far.

RTIC Soft Pack

I have the 8 and 40.

I have had the 40 for 4 or 5 years and the 8 for 3 years. I would buy them again.

I have a Rtic 24 Softpak and the zipper failed in about 3 years using it maybe 5 times a year.

What size and what are you gonna use it for? I have a Polar Bear soft cooler that I've been using for 10 years. Holds a case of beer and 10# of ice. It's made of heavy canvas and had a plastic liner but it isn't eater tight so it rides in the bed.

These two. ^^^^^^^^^^ years ago the Coleman Xtreme was a great cooler for the money. I had one that lasted for 4 yrs in the back of my truck. It finally had been crushed by feed bags or things rolling around in the back of the truck. So I bought a new to replace it. Same cooler but not as good of a cooler for keeping ice for multiple days as the first one.

I have a Coleman steel-belted that I use for a lighter-weight ice chest, use mainly for hauling food and drinks when we go hunt or to the coast. It gets quite a bit of "normal" use and has lasted well. In 10 years, only had to replace the metal latch. I don't use it for long ice retention, so I can't really speak to how long ice last, probably similar to a little better than a normal ice chest.

Probably 50-70 qt. I will use it for trips. It may go in and out of the truck a few times over the coarse of a vacation. The rotomolded ones are just too heavy for me to move around. I have a torn rotator cuff and it makes lifting difficult when I get much over 50#. I want to stick with hard sided.

We bought our boat in 2013 and it came with an igloo marine under the leaning post. Its still in great shape.

Have had good luck with the colemans also.

Like the OP I have a 125 and 38 quart Kodi(HEB's yeti knock off) and they are great, but the big one is heavy empty and the little one is too small for a lot of stuff. They are good at what they do but for many things i think they make poor every day ice chests.

Only thing I ever found in an roadside cooler is a rotting hog. Still got the cooler, Igloo Marine 150.

Nice! It was Michelob Ultra but hey, it was free.
I picked up a Coleman before that had what appeared to be pork in it, and another Igloo that had fish in it (trout & reds thrown all over the ditch). Patched up and used those coolers for years lol.
