Has anyone used one of these icy breeze for hotter hunting times of the year ! Are they loud do they work good for the blind Like game cameras, people started making "home brew" versions before the factory models became available. I made one recently and was very surprised at the results. However, I was also a little surprised at how quickly the ice melted once the hot outside air began blowing into it. Someone suggested freezing large milk bottles of water to serve as the cooling source but I haven't gotten around to trying it myself. Many YouTube videos available that show specific models of coolers and electric fans should you decide to build your own. I made mine in such a way that the fan and outlet assembly can be left in the stand along with a 12-volt battery to run it. Then it's just a matter of bringing along the cooler and ice for each use. It's really nothing more than a sheet of plywood with holes for the attached fan and PVC outlet pipe so you can lay everything over the open top of any appropriately-sized cooler. A sheet of insulated foam board would probably work even better. Also, you'll have to deal with more noise if you want more air. The fan that I ordered online from Amazon is a good middle-ground option IMO. It moves a decent amount of air at an acceptable noise level. I suspect most of the factory models were designed more for people going on picnics than hunters. Still, they might be fine for dove hunting where some noise isn't going to be as much of a problem.

I made one out of a 5 gallon bucket, a 12 volt fan and PVC pipe for the exhaust as a gift for a friend. He uses a frozen gallon milk jug for cooling the air. Follow this video, I had an old car heater motor with fan for my fan source. RV fans will also work. He uses it in his garage shop.

Use frozen bottles for ice. I use Gatorade bottles with frozen water in mine. Once they thaw out if I'm still out then drink and replace. Cuts down on amount of water I have to carry in.

Has anyone used one of these in a ground blind or box stand and found they can significantly reduce the inside temperature? It seems the most common use might be to blow cool air in given direction in open areas, much like those much larger water fans used in shops and other places. Since they don't need to transfer heat outside like an normal AC, I could see where they might be able to drop the inside temperature of small enclosures several degrees by continuous cooling of recirculated the air unless the heat gain through walls isn't too much.

That’s what I’m curious of. The place in Weatherford I bought my tank blind from sells them. They state it makes the heat more manageable . Especially since I have 2” spray foam insulation inside my tank blind

Especially since I have 2” spray foam insulation inside my tank blind They no doubt blow cool air and don't require outside venting because heat is lost due to the ice. Having an insulated blind will definitely cut down on heat gain. Here's a photo of what I considered a prototype that I built one day just to have something to do. I tested it using the battery on my truck and was surprised at how well it worked. I just dumped some ice from the frig into the bottom and noticed once I had it running how the ice wasn't going to last as long as I might have expected. As others suggested when I shared this photo earlier, water frozen in old milk jugs or soda bottles would probably last much longer.

Here's the fan that I used in my prototype just in case anyone wants to toy with building their own to save some $$$. The strip of pipe insulation that I used to line the hole in the plywood made for easy use and removal if I wanted to use the fan for other purposes. Link

Tried them. Thought it was absolutely horrible. Yeah, it blows a little cool air and a LOT of moisture. If you aren't in a place where a swamp cooler works really well, such as where the humidity is 30% or below, the negative effect is all the extra moisture. Pretty soon you find that your sweat is not evaporating and you end up just feeling wet.
They will not significantly reduce the temperature of a ground blind. Think about it for a minute. A ground blind has a volume of about 140 cubic feet and up, usually, right? Off the top of your head, do you think if you dumped 3-5 gallons of ice in their that it would cool off dramatically? Running the fan over the ice just causes it to melt faster. Plus, what is missing from the system is that you aren't actually removing the heat, so this isn't working like your 'fridge or AC units.

I was wondering if humidity might become a problem. Still, a buildup of sweat makes for a very humid feeling.

The moisture is contained in the bottles. I found that you only get 1 to 2 uses from a milk jug then they split. I like the Gatorade bottle idea tho, they are heavier gauge and also have ridges to take the expansion.

You can use frozen bottles and do away with most of the humidity issue, but then you also retard the transfer of the cold into cooling the air. In other words, you decrease efficiency. However, you will prolong the ability of the units to cool, but they just won't cool as well.
Using gallon jugs would be one of the worst ways to go because you are working with less surface area, for the given volume of ice.

Ice in a jug, eliminates quite a bot of the humidity. If you dump a bunch of loose ice you will also evaporate quite a bit of it. That si why we set ours up for bottels of frozen water, not adding a lot of humidity.

Haha ! No man I like that idea . Just worried to much like a swamp cooler . For inside a blind . Outside blind great. And I bit the bullet and purchased the icy breeze. Let’s just say that thing rocks . Cold and not to loud works great . No moisture at all clean dry cold air only

Quitting when I have to put in A/C to hunt. Ain't happening. We carried the fan buckets out with us last year when dove hunting, I had one in front of me. It was a lot better than nothing. A little shade from the mesquites and the cool air was nice.
