I am just wondering if anyone has done something like this before. I'm making a fence hopping rig. The idea is simple, I'm using a large Folgers can with holes in it the rope goes through. The rope comes down a couple of feet in two loops. I will put the can with the opening facing downward on a fence post and use the loops to climb the fence as it were.
The rope loops should come down to about 18 in from the ground. I think I'll loop can be on each side or I can have two sets of lips for balance.
Has anyone tried this or am I crazy?

What type of fence? Net or barb or feed pen?

That rope rig sounds like an accident waiting for my foot to get caught and trip me up and cut me and my clothes up on barb wire
I bought a fence stepper referenced above about 20+ years ago. Keep in truck and daypack. Much easy to transport than coffee can and ropes plus quick and easy use

Best thing I ever used to get to the other side of a fence, was this
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

How much do you weigh? Not sure I'd trust my nads to a Folger's can if I weighed more than 90 pounds.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

That stepping gadget is nifty but we have a lot of wooden fence posts that are family ranch, there is not always a metal one to hook onto. Old school cedar posts, friends.
I will give it a try and let you know. I am surprised everyone is so close-minded about jumping fences but I like the Wirecutter idea LOL

As long as it's your cross fence, I don't have a problem with it in the world. More power to you and be safe.

On cross fences we built ladders and or have gates every so often..

On 3 strand barbed wire an old army blanket over the top strand will usually let you straddle it and get over. Might not work real well on a new tight fence.

Had one of these for a very long time when west Texas dove hunting didn't cost an arm and a leg and a firstborn. Never had the nice little case though

The fences are old and some of them have a tight netting along with barbed wire which makes them a pain to cross... They can be very loose though in places too... So no, crossing them is awkward.

Don't get the gimmicks, are fences that hard for some people? Usually pretty easy to get over, through or under one depending on age and condition. I generally opt to go under these days when possible.

I added a gate and more cross over ladders this year. I had to restretch two fences this year from dove hunters climbing my T post fences. I guess it's takes too long to walk 50 yards and use a ladder or gate. I'll be discussing this with my hunters this year.

Clever idea, but...any system is as strong as the weakest link. Can bottoms weren't designed to support human critters. Hmmm, but neither has this can collector tested this.
