give benadryl and tylenol..swelling will go down and will ease the pain your dog is in..i can't say my dog got bit by a rattler, but he was bit by a venomous snake and his whole face was swollen as well as his back foot..he was fine in a day...give benadryl and tylenol once a day and you'll be good

Nightowl2 that sound a whole lot more like a wasp sting then a snake bite.
Tigger If it isn't white it is not a birddog.

Not sure about the Dallas area as I use a vet in fort worth for the vaccine (Camp Bowie Animal Clinic). best way is to attend one of the Snake Avoidance clinics that some of the local clubs put on and they will usually offer the vaccine also.
Nightowl's advice of Tylenol is very bad advice. you should never give a dog acetomenaphen or ibuprofen as it can result in liver damage and even death. if you have to give your dog something for pain and swelling, it should be "buffered" aspirin.
the best course is to vaccinate every year and keep some sort of antihistimine (benadryl) with you at all times. In the case of a bite, antihistimines administered at 1mg/lb and getting the dog to a vet asap is the best plan. even aspirin, etc can thin the blood and cause greater/faster spreading of the venom and also excess bleeding.

All the vets in my area have it available. Yours should too.

Check out the sticky at the top of the Gun Dog forum. 8/1/09 in Weatherford... I usually make the LSGSPC event every year but will be attending this one this year.

You need to know what kind of snake it is before you go medicating the animal. If it was a rattler the dog is in serious need of vet care, not our kind of care.

BTW, most vets can order the rattlesnake vaccine for you if they don't have it on hand.
