I’ve run into some serious issues with multiple local dealerships and their management all related to my personal 2007 Dodge Ram 1500.
I’ve already played by their rules which involves setting up a case number with Dodge Customer Care aka FCA USA llc which wasted a month of my time and are extremely rude and inept - quite a combo...
I won’t go into detail on dealerships and peoples names as I haven’t wanted to open a schmear campaign and I dont think it would be financially prudent to take up legal action based on the RAMs value.
In essence I’m hoping some THF’er is willing to PM me a personal contact within the corporate ranks that understands how loyal customers should be treated - until then Dodge, RAM, Chrysler, get zero additional dollars of mine, ever!
Feel free to bash Dodge Rams all day here - SO LONG AS YOU OWN(ed) IT PERSONALLY AND SHARE MY PAIN.
Here’s the story :
Bought my second NEW Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab 4.7l 2wd truck in 2007 with 15 miles on it. This was at the time US automakers were in tough financial times and so as an incentive to buyers they offered for a limited period a Lifetime Limited Powertrain Warranty, with conditions.
Truck currently has 188k miles on the original engine and transmission but misfires badly, constantly throws codes for random cylinder misfire.
I’ve made sure to keep the warranty sound by doing the following:
Maintaining sole ownership of this turd bucket (clear TX title) Ensuring I take it to dodge every 5 years for their personal inspection (done in 2012 , 2017, next up is 2022) No modifications to the truck - it’s bone stock - ok ok I confess it has a K&N Air filter in it
Misfires are so bad it bucks down the freeway - although it will get me from A to B.
Problem started around late 2018 - since 3 dealerships have had it in the DFW metro and all three have provided different diagnosis and none involves addressing the powertrain covered parts - again Dodge Customer Care was involved with the last 2 dealership visits - one of which lasted 37 days (no rental no service vehicle taken).
I only use the truck now to haul trash to the city dump and as a personal reminder of how Dodge RAM screwed me out of a lifetime warranty for playing by their rules.
Examples of why I say their giving me the business:
Well if I had listened to dealership #2 I would be the owner of a new PCM , exhaust manifold treatment / service , and other miscellaneous charges ~ $ 2300 bucks quoted to see if it fixes the problem
And dealership #3 got smart and said it’s none of that - I simply have a bad engine wiring harness. Oh by the way they’ve been discontinued and therefore they can’t source one and repair it to determine if that fixes my issue.
I’m of the belief that 90 PSI in cylinder 2 is my real issue but the report I got in hand from dealership # 2 shows it as 175 PSI...
Yeah so , no I’m not taking the bait from these dealerships - at what point does Dodge own up to warranty service or replacement of an engine or tranny without having me replace every other part on the truck first ????
I know I know - it sucks to be an educated consumer who knows how to work on his own truck - is only in his mid 40’s and was suckered into thinking I’d have a Dodge Ram truck for life that I could someday relate a cool story about to my grandkids (future grandkids lord willing)....
Anybody gotta a Hero over at Dodge Ram ?

I think you are like I am dealing with goodyear wasting your time. But it gives me something to do and I enjoy bitching at them. But good luck and I think you are probably SOL.

Wish I could help. I bought mine just before they offered the lifetime warranty and felt I screwed up. Shortly after that Dodge sold out and then it became clear why they were offering a lifetime warranty knowing full well they wouldn't be the ones having to honor it. If you keep pushing you will eventually get them to cave and fix it. Just hope you still have your sanity when they do.

Geez, buy another truck and move on. The 4.7 can't take a 3' hill without downshifting. How long did you expect to last?

Does a powertrain warranty cover those things?
Does it use coil packs?
To be determined

2007 with 188,000 miles. Yep ought to be good for at least 3/4 million. Lean on um! They have a local office, was in the same building as my corporate office. Good to know - I may need to visit that address and kick over a couple of rocks and see what scurries away... I think you are like I am dealing with goodyear wasting your time. But it gives me something to do and I enjoy bitching at them. But good luck and I think you are probably SOL. Oh man you ain’t kidding - I’m loyal to a fault and when companies don’t play fair it gets my blood boiling . I often cringe thinking how people with fixed incomes and/or no motor wrenching skills get raked over the coals for their hard earned money , for what - to feed the greed of the dealer network .... Does a powertrain warranty cover those things?
Does it use coil packs? I put all new coil packs and plugs on it - no change , it misfires worse in summer than winter too... The powertrain warranty is very specific on what it covers - pcm (POWERTRAIN Control Modules) aren’t covered .... I had to educate dealership number # 1 that the front main oil seal was covered - they voided my warranty around 2013 for refusing to pay their fee to have it installed. A call to then Dodge (not current FCA Dodge) got my warranty reinstated and part covered as it should’ve been. It’s a darn shame dealing with “service managers” who don’t care or know about the warranty specifics ... I figure I’ve invested 1,000 hours of my own time into calls, dialogue, and follow up on this truck in the last 10 years (after the first required inspection). I have an email from dealership number 2’s service manager berating me for expecting them to fix the engine under warranty when my trucks paint and suspension are obviously shot .... Embarrassing on their behalf if i ever locate an executive that cares...

It is under $100 to file in small claims court, no lawyer needed to file. Maybe go that route if you can't get them to jump....

I’ll bear this in mind, I’ve never been the sort to sue or male claims against companies or folks. Ordinarily I let things lay as they fall but then again this is a new and different situation, one I had planned on seeing through for many years in a “lifetime” which I believe would cost a company like Dodge a lot over the duration - hence their resistance...
