who hunts with a old gun,how did you come by it,such as has it been in your family and pased down,or what ever...

When I was a kid growing up I used to use my father's old A-5 Browning with a Monte Carlo stock. I have never and probably never again shoot a gun that fits so well. I had to put it up when steel came along. I miss those days of 2 3/4 #5 lead shot. That is a duck deadly combo right there. I have been doing some research on some new shot shells called Matrix. The metal density is that of lead and they claim to be as soft as lead. If this is true then I can buy a box or two and take the old A-5 out for a trip when I am hunting the fresh water sloughs.

I use a Remington 16 gauge Model 31 for dove. It was passed down in my family, and the one and only gun I have ever used for dove ever since I was a kid. I don’t know how old it is, but it was discontinued in 1949 according to the link below. I love that gun. I hope my 8 year old son enjoys it as much as I did. i have 2 old rem.one is a model 11-48 that belonged to my great grandad,it has an old lyman screw on choke(full)it was a duck killin machine before they outlawed lead,the other is an 11-a i got on a trade,super clean i hunt dove with it some,i would like to have a 31 in 12 ga with a full choke(trap grade)and a-5 brow.see some for sale but nothing that im intrested in...

My great uncle gave me and my brothers an A5, I loved that gun, couldn't miss with it and it rarely jammed even with the cheap rounds we used to feed it. Unfortunately it was stolen 
Now I use an old 870 12 ga that is at least 20 yrs old.

Nice gun. Our A5 wasn't nearly as nice as the one in your pic. It was a US Army issued gun but it sure shot nice, the brass butt plate hardly left a bruise.  I looked for one at the Dallas Gun Show a couple of months ago and found 2 or 3 very similar guns with same markings in the $400-500 dollar range. Maybe I will buy one next time for dove

My Dad has a Remington 870 Wingmaster that he bought at the base PX in the Philipines back in 1956 (2 years before me). He still has the shotgun. Unfortunately a(EX)friend of mine played a trick on me one turkey season and loaded it with a slug. Gun had a FULL choke barrel. Split the last 1 1/2" when I shot it at a turkey. Luckily I did not split my face. Had to cut it down to a 27 1/2" MODIFIED.
He mostly uses it for deer (with a differant barrel) now. I told him that is one gun that NOBODY ELSE gets when he decides to get rid of it or when he dies.
CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE FOR TOMORROW. INVEST IN TOMORROW BY TAKING A CHILD HUNTING OR FISHING TODAY.

Until I bought my Remington 870 12ga, I used my Great-Grandfathers L.C. Smith double barrel 20ga. It does not have much of a kick pad. After taking a few shots I had bruises up and down my shoulder.

I just bought a NIB browning A-5 that I love. 86 model, I wanted a beligian, but I wanted the ease of screw in chokes. Great gun.

I still have my first gun that my dad bought for me when I was about 12. It is a Remington 870 20 gauge. It is over 25 years old. The blueing is worn off but still shoots great. I break it out every once in a while. My grandfather passed away this year and I may buy his bolt action .410 from my grandmother. It was the first gun I ever bird hunted with. Not sure how old that gun is.

Go for it, I dove hunt with both a 870 or a bolt action 410 the 870 I bought when I came home from Vietnam, the 410 was given to me by my Grandmother, she could blow the birds away with that 410, I hit more birds with the 410 than the 870, and save money on shells, the 870 cost me $89.95 and I still have the box and sales receipt, some years it never is fired. The 410 is locked and loaded every dove season, it really does irritate the autoloader crowd, with its accuracy.

My Dad passed away in '96, he loved to Dove and Duck hunt. With all the brothers and sisters I was fortunate to get his old Revelation 12ga. It's made by Franchi of Italy and kind of looks like the Browning. My youngest brother had shot some reloads in it and got a squib and bulged the barrel just in front of the hand guard. I found a complete gun minus the stock and bought it for $125 from Lee's over in Irving. If your looking for parts for an old gun he's the go to guy in DFW. Can't wait opening day to go with my son and carry on the tradition.

I learned to hunt with a Lefever and Arms single-shot 20 gauge trap and field gun. It was manufactured, I believe, in 1918. My son learned to hunt with the same gun. I hope to pass it along to a grandchild.

I learned to hunt with a H & R single shot 410, which I still have, but I love my 16 gauge Remington model 11... awesome gun, nickel plated...

I Have a Savage 311 side by side that was my Dad's. It's in immaculate shape considering that it is 50plus years old. Now you've got me considering taking out Sept 1,you can bet,I'll be very careful with it.

Rowney, if you don't mind me asking what did you pay for a NIB A5? I have one that I hunt the timber with and love the gun, I just don't have the guts to take it to the bay.

I paid 800, traded a BPS though for 350, so i only had to pay 450. Technically it had about 10 shots through it, but not enough to worry about. Its a Jap though, so that took away from the value. but i wanted the invector chokes.

man that was good readn,i love traditions every family should have em,cat where do ya work out of,i make a lot of trips to RDO for parts and go rite by holt,wish we had cat stuff but my cousin is green blooded if ya no what i meen,that gun looks to have good storys behind it.....
