Took a ride this morning in a North American AT6 / SNJ "Texan" training aircraft at the Highland Lakes Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force based in Burnet, Texas. Talk about Awesome. Brand new Radial Motor and thundering sound , An hour of fun. Don't think I'll ever get the grin off my face. Pilot even flew me over to Kingsland Tx. and buzzed my house. Could see the Wife a waving. Did I say Totally Awesome. Thanks a Million Captain Rick.

I'd love to ride in one of those.

I had the pleasure of flying in one on a Planes of Fame flight with an instructor pilot over 20 years ago. I got to take the stick for a while even doing a roll. I urge anyone with an interest in aircraft to take a flight if they can.

Wife bought me a Special $300 ride last year for my Birthday. Thought it went away as the T6 was disassembled and engine was overhauled right at the time to fly last July. Sonny the Main Cat at the Commemorative Air Force called Her a couple weeks ago and said we were on. Think I was one of the first Cats up in the Plane after check out flight on plane. A hellava experience at the least. Full controls in the back where I sat. Captain was a United Pilot out of San Antonio and good one. He also does Aerobatic Flying it the planes He owns all over. Heck , a Barrel Roll and a upside down Loop was enough to get my attention. We were up almost an hour. It was GREAT! Still Grinning.

Would trade that bad boy (XL) in a heartbeat for this puppy. But would have to hire somebody to fly it. It looked like a hand full. I can drive the bus. Kinda.

I didn't find it difficult, you get good feedback through the stick, so with the instructor coaching, I did climbs, shallow dives and turns, culminated by a barrel roll. I am not a pilot but I'm convinced I could learn to be one.

That brings back some memories. My grandfather was a mechanic on these planes for the WASPS at Avenger field in Sweetwater during the war. My mom still has the picture of the plane he was in charge of hanging above my dad's desk.
