Just my two cents from a guy that has formal training in the stock market and investing for what it's worth. Just curious, what's your formal training? 3 years with Fidelity Investments out of grad school, Series 6 & 63 trained and extensive consulting in the retirement investments arena.. Cool. No formal training myself, just a stock picker who's been day/swing trading stocks as a hobby/side hustle since 2009.

I have stated my opinion a few times, it has not changed. You are not going to build wealth in the market playing the market timing game. You build weather investing every pay check (at your risk level tolerance) your entire working life, if market is down, fine you buy cheaper averaging down your portfolio cost. Yes and no, having a cash leverage in a down turn can be extremely lucrative. You don’t have to be able to predict the bottom either. The market goes up more than it goes down, so odds are against you by sitting on cash. You should be holding cash only to lower the risk of your portfolio.

Market portfolio theory says everyone should be holding the exact same diversified market portfolio “M”. M is 100%, you want less risk you hold some cash, say 20% cash, this moves you down the capital market line, borrow and buy more M, this moves you up the capital market line. You can play with the riskyness of your portfolio trying to time the market, but like I said, odds are against you.

Back in the 90’s I used to play the timing the market game, when the sky was blue and everything was great, I held 100% M. When the market was down, I would margin out to a 140% M. The dot com bust got me, I got margin calls and was forced to sell low. I don’t play that game any more.

If I had someone managing my account and they were just now doing something I would be upset luv, do you not agree that sometimes "doing something" is the wrong move? Everyone has different strategies but a whole lot of folks feel its best to just stand pat and do nothing.

Saw a commercial today on CNBC for taking advantage of the $100,000 interest free loans we can take out of our 401Ks now. Their investment was east coast multi-family private placements. Just need to fudge my accredited investor status. Going all in for their 18% annual return....

Yes doing something can be the wrong move My comment was geared to the effect the drop has been here for awhile and just now this guy wants to move thing kinda slow I personally have sat on what I had prior and raising the numbers of shares I have while the getting is good I invest for dividends for down the road I don't do a lot with it otherwise

I'm surprised that market is up for the week with all the rioting.

Big oil is looking great if you bought at the March lows....... Most things are looking good if you bought at the March lows I grabbed Exxon and SWA. Very nice recovery on both of those so far. Hope it keeps up. Scratching my head as to why the market is unaffected by all the unrest.

Scratching my head as to why the market is unaffected by all the unrest. I’m sure it is negatively impacting the market, but not enough to offset the positive impact of reopening the economy and less uncertainty now with covid. If there were no riots, the market would be up even more. But this riot thing is short term impacting earning.

April 1st, I put 10% of my cash back into stocks. Hindsight is always 20/20, but that 10% investment has an annualized return of close to 30%.
