Hey. I am a single dove hunter up in Collin County, McKinney to be exact. If anyone is in the same boat and would like to meet up sometime drop me a PM or email. I plan on hunting some public land around the area.

What does being single have to do with dove hunting Ok now fun over after the season starts you will find more times then not guys posting about going out that afternoon to X or Y location but lots of time at public places, so you just a little early yet, but when the season gets here always have your lic, gun, bags and shells with you or you might miss out.

The purpose of a warrior is not to reason with the enemy but to kill him.

What an offer Littlemac, you need to take crufflerjohn up on that offer!

Hey crufflerjohn, put up a post with pics or send a PM about the new shotgun.

Just an Idea:

I'm probably gonna hunt mostly public this year.
Maybe a group of us public hunters could get together before season and (I use the term very loosly) organize . ie scouting various fields and reporting back via e-mail, PMs, pre/post hunt get together, phone etc. Probably save a lot of fuel and time.

It ain't easy being me.

I am guessing that we are not talking about a Smith and Wesson 1000 autoloader or 1100 Remington

This sounds like a good idea to me.
Like littlemac I'm in Mckinney. There
have been quite a few public dove areas
in this area tho the actual dove can be
scattered. Some team scouting and hunt
get togethers could be enjoyable.
Good idea.

I'm just about 15 miles north of you guys in McKinney. I hope the public land your scoutin looks better than my places. I haven't seen too much activity up this way.

I can do you all a favor..........The fields in Collin and surrounding AHP fields is not worth the effort and cost of gas. TP&W does a poor job with the small game AHP lands close to metroplex. Yes it looks good on paper that they lease land for folks to hunt on the cheap but it does not work out all that well. If you guys are willing to drive to get away from the crowds and look in you AHP books, there is better hunting to be found. If there are birds in metroplex areas.....you can bet the farm that the fields will be shot out the first 3 to 4 days. Been there done that. Sure you can go out and shot maybe 4 or 5 birds but if I put in the effort to hunt I want all the birds I am allowed by law. Good luck my AHP friends!!!

I'm up for whatever.

Thanks for the heads up TXHeat.

I don't mind sharing what little I know. I've never dove hunted in north Texas.

It just really stinks. I wish I had some sure fire spots to share. I am used to having access to tons of areas. I grew up hunting dove all over West Texas. Mostly around El Paso as a kid, then for several years around Lubbock.

I sure do love to shot those little gray bullets.

I have seen a ton of dove along 121 b/w the tollway and 75. I go that way back and forth to Addison for work.

Please anyone that is flying solo this fall looking for a person to go hunting with I am looking to meet some folks. None of my friends are hunters around these parts.

Here are some pics from last season.

My first turkeys (hens) and some gambles.

Over the last 3 seasons I've spent time at each
of the Collin Cty public dove hunt areas and find
the same as the rest of you, birds very few and
far between. That said, traveling to some of the
areas farther from the metroplex is my next attempt
at inexpensive hunting and having some type of group
scouting/hunting makes alot of sense to me. Sharing
the gas cost, info, the experience or all these things
seems like something worth trying. Anyways, over the
next few weeks let's try to keep this idea alive.
Reasonable day lease options could also be something we
can cooperate on.
Again, I for one appreciate this thread and the idea
of meeting and hunting together. Hopefully some good
will come of it.

Yeah, I tried the public leases around the Dallas area
last year for the first time, and it did suck!! Burned a
ton of gas scouting all the areas, it was ok the first day,
but after that is was terrible. The amount of money I
spent on gas scouting, I could have got a private lease.
So that is what I’m doing this year. Looks like teal
season is the next weekend after dove open , so I may just
pay for dove open weekend, then do teal, and perhaps pick
-up some private dove hunts later in the season after
teal. Not sure yet, but I certainly will not be doing
public hunt on dove open!!
