That's not correct. It can be planted and hunted over, as long as it's not manipulated. And that's per the NRCS (National Resource Conservation Service) and the Federal Game Warden.

There was a big thread on that topic on this board last month, and people were arguing the point back and forth. I am 100% comfortable with my legal standing on the issue.

Congratulations.

Looks like you have great place there and the mindset to make it spectacular. I wish you the best with it.

352 acres that's in the Wetlands Reserve Program. The project was designed and built by Ducks Unlimited, in cooperation with the NRCS.

What type of easement deal, if any, did you have to negotiate with DU?

What does manipulated mean? Cut and spread?

The Wetlands Reserve Program's easement is a permanent easement. Actually, it's fine by me. My only interest in it is recreation, conservation and management. The best thing about is that the NRCS people are chomping at the bit to help people who are legitimately trying to manage their WRP properties. Most of the owners take the easement money and never do anything else with the land.

The government contracted the design of the wetlands to DU. DU is not involved anymore in any way. It's just me and the NRCS.

The first thing I did was to meet the NRCS/WRP folks, and those guys are gonna help me turn this thing into the most productive unit in the county.

Thanks junfan,
It comes up every year at least 4 times. Super looking place. Good luck with it.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/season/waterfowl/methods/
A hunter MAY NOT:
 hunt migratory birds with the aid of bait, or on or over any baited area;
 hunt over any baited area until 10 days after all baiting materials have been removed;
 hunt waterfowl or cranes over manipulated planted millet, unless the millet was planted not less than one year prior to hunting;
 hunt waterfowl or cranes over crops that have been manipulated, unless the manipulation is a normal agricultural post-harvesting manipulation in accordance with official recommendations of State Extension Specialists of the Cooperative Extension Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

What is Illegal?
Some examples of areas where you cannot hunt waterfowl include:

Areas where grain or seed has been top-sown and the Cooperative Extension Service does not recommend the practice of top sowing (see section on wildlife food plots).
Crops that have been harvested outside of the recommended harvest dates established by the Cooperative Extension Service (including any subsequent post-harvest manipulations).
Unharvested crops that have been trampled by livestock or subjected to other types of manipulations that distribute, scatter, or expose grain.
Areas where grain is present and stored, such as grain elevators and grain bins.
Areas where grain is present for the purpose of feeding livestock.
Freshly planted wildlife food plots that contain exposed grain.
Croplands where a crop has been harvested and the removed grain is redistributed or “added back” onto the area where grown.
These examples do not represent an all-inclusive list of waterfowl baiting violations.

I'm not going to argue with you. My place will not be baited nor will any of the food plots be manipulated.

I know what I'm talking about, I assure you.

End of story.

Wasn't trying to be a smartass...but what I meant is I am very familar with the rules.

The whole hunting over food plot topic has been beat into the ground here. I am comfortable with what the rules are, the government officials with whom I have spoke, and the management plan that THEY have provided me.

But I appreciate all congrats you guys have given me.

No problem junfan. I was not trying to start an argument. I had not seen the other thread. It was beat to a pulp. It looked like every one had fun on that thread.

if you own land in OK, does that make you eligible for a resident hunting license?

Nice place, I have a cabin near there (Mountain Fork) if you ever need a place to stay OR a hunting buddy.

Im guessing it's the place I have seen for sale up there for a little while, if so it has a cabin on it....Im very jealous congrats.

I am pretty sure that if you own property, then you can get a resident license. You can alway call the ODWC (405) 521-3852 to verify.

It's not skybusting, if you make the shot.

I am pretty sure you have to actually live there. I know for a fact that Texas and Louisiana are that way. When I moved here I had to be a resident for 6 months before I could get a resident Texas license. Had to have a out of state license before the 6 months.

Nope. Got a buddy that has land up there and he always had to buy an out of state license. They also stopped selling lifetime licenses to out of state residents.

I'd have to move there for 6 months, buy lifetime license, then move back.
