I don't use a four-wheeler, but I park as far away as possible. If the deer aren't used to four-wheelers or vehicles, why use one if you don't have to. If I see deer while driving and they do not run, I feel more comfortable driving closer to my stand. If they take off at the site of a vehicle, I make sure they don't see it when I'm hunting. Any vehicle makes much more noise than walking. Especially, later on during the season when the deer are feeling pressured.

I walk also. I leave all vehicles at camp when hunting.
But, we had a discussion about this before - maybe year before last - where it depended on the deer. Like Mark said if they're skiddish, don't chance it. Some folks claim to see more deer when on their ATVs due to the deer relating them to feeding time. I can see how that can happen, but it's never happened to me.

Depends on the situation. I use a jeep and feed a minimum of 150 lbs of corn from it a day. If I am bow hunting I may feed the road with the jeep then walk back to my spot. If I am hunting from my 40ft blind I may park right underneath it. I think the deer get used to the noise of the jeep and the feeder.
Heck, on the lease my father had near Encinal we had to honk the horn on the feed truck to get them out of the way. Just like feeding cattle.

I park as close to the stand as possible. I usually do a cut-out in the brush right next to the stand for parking. I figure why scent up the the area by walking in. By the time a deer is close enough to see my vehicle he will be on the ground if I want him. But it depends on the area and if deer seldom see or hear a vehicle it may not be a good idea.

M16, you said exactly what I was gonna say. Everyone on my lease uses 4 wheelers, and I've got to where I park right behind my stand and cover it up. I've seen deer walk to the path I used to walk in to my stand, and then turn and run. It seems when they cross the 4 wheeler path, it doesn't bother them, but if they cross my foot path, the mature deer often get a little nervous.

I guess I failed to mention that I wear rubber boots when possible on the way to the stand. Otherwise, they will smell where you have been.

I PARK ABOUT 300 YARDS AWAY AND WALK IN ABOUT HALF THE TIME THERE ARE DEER AT MY FAR FEEDER (130 YDS WHEN I GET THERE)I SCOPE THEM THEN GO AHEAD AND EASE INTO MY BLIND WITHOUT DISTURBING THEM

Depends on how often they see/hear a four wheeler, and what reaction they tend to have. Our landowner uses one to check cattle. I have driven within a few feet of them without spooking them. I have seen them eat the corn that spilled from the sacks on the seat or packs, right on the 4 wheeler.
Deer are creatures of habit, and very adaptive. I was at TX DPS Pistol Range in January and saw deer within 30 yards of the firing line....with 60 of us firing. But they see that everyday, without risk. Probably the safest deer around.

We have gas wells on our place and the same guy checks them everyday so the wildlife pays vehicles very little atention. He has told me about turning a corner and having to wait for the pigs to finish crossing in front of him. When I first got my four wheeler I would drive to the back fence, park and walk the rest of the way in.Came out after doing this one day and there was a deer track on top of my foot print right next to the four wheeler. So It just depends on how I feel, sometimes I'll walk other times I'll drive right up to my stand and park it in the brush.Seen and killed deer both ways.

my experience is that if they see you driving it they'll usually give you a good stare (long enough to get a shot if wanted ) but if its just parked and not moving they didnt mind.... i've parked mine on a road to where i could watch 2 different shooting lanes...when the deer walked out i just eased to the opposite side of the 4 wheeler and used the seat for a rest...
kill em and grill em

I drive as close as I can, sometimes step from the 4 wheeler to the ladder. Try this when driving down the road and you see a deer, just keep driving by him, does he just kind of watch you or does he leave like all he!! is breaking loose. Now try stopping and getting out with a deer standing by the road what happens. The places I have hunted deer are always familiar with vehicles and seem a WHOLE LOT more relaxed watching a truck than a fellow coming through the pasture.

I have parked right under it before....LOL...I was late. It was South Texas...so I was not too concerned. Typically, I hide it in some brush, but typically walk 200 yards or more into my blind.
