Have some hogs tearing up our place. Wanting to introduce them to some lead. I have a relative that is loaning his ar 300 blackout with 16 inch barrel and pistol gas for this exercise. The terrain consist of brush hunting except for one field where we may be able to take a 125 yard shot. What ammo would you recommend for this setup given the shooting scenario?

Wanting to smell bacon.....

Coincidentally, I have a 300 BLK with a 16" barrel that I use for oinkers.

This is what I use 125 gr SST. I see they have it on sale...Guess it is time for me to stock up again!

Not a fan of ballistic tip ammo on hogs, esp when they will be fatter and thicker skinned (i.e. winter) due to rapid expansion and bullet failure to penetrate on the thick shield.

Much prefer a soft point or some non hollow nonballistic tip bullet.

300 BLK is a slower moving round. Therefore, there is little worry about an SST and rapid over-expansion.

Under those exact conditions I have used 125 gr. SST from a 16" barrel moving at 2240 fps. Put the bullet where it belongs and you'll dump them, like I have. I buy it form a forum member, he prolly has it in stock, Custom Reloads of Dallas [Linked Image]

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

300 BLK should be good out to 125 yards and a little beyond if necessary. I'm reloading and shooting 110 grain Hornady SP bullets. Some folks like Barnes copper bullets/ammo. I'd recommend staying in the 110 - 130 grain range for bullets, and pick something that will expand at velocities around 2000 F/Sec or so.
It seems there are enough folks saying the 125 grain SST works for me to believe it.

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.

In my multiple years of hunting with a 300 blk out, the most effective bullets I have found are the 125 SST and 125 Ballistic Tip. Ford vs. Chevy, they both work equally well, IMO. (But I do prefer the 125 SST and Dodge!)
