Use a resume writing service. They do a great job and make you sound a whole lot better than you actually believed you were... Now if you are fresh out of college that is different.

Go to your school/college for advise. If they don't, your school/college sucked or is still sucking.

I review probably 15-20 resumes a week for various positions I have available. What type of help are you looking for??? and in what field???
key points: run spell check run grammar check spell out acronyms on first use and put acronym in parentheses, use acronym after. or put in an acronym table like an appendix try to stay to 2 pages maximum if at all possible. for previous jobs, list company name, location and dates worked list GPA if above 3.5, leave out if below list any awards, patents, memberships ... that apply towards your field as applicable
probably a million other little things but those are some that immediately jump out at me (especially spelling/grammar).

When listing your past duties and experiences, use a variety of action verbs. Here's some from my last resume...
Managed Completed Interviewed and hired Designed and implemented Recommended and approved Planned and conducted Assisted Developed Designed and administered Created and maintained Provided Performed Upgraded Assessed Served Conducted Directed Installed and maintained Coordinated
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

More important than a resume, check yourself on Google and social media sites. Amazing how fast that will cull you from consideration.

Disagree, creative BS is key to everything. You just got pass the red face test on said BS. There is no "creative" BS, there is no "good" BS. It's all just BS. I can't tell you how many resumes I've reviewed but I can tell you I know BS when I see it and those resumes went straight in the trash.

Agree with TXhogslayer about the ATS(Applicant Tracker System).
Remember this. A resume is a marketing document. Not just a historical summary of your past jobs.
I spent quite a few years as a headhunter and resume coach and have done a lot of public speaking on the subject of selling yourself to a potential employer.
The first step when a resume is received is a program that compares the companies needs with your resume. This is the law. We're talking buzz words here. The program will score your resume to the companies needs. The program is sophisticated but incredibly dumb. What I mean is that, unless the HR person/recruiter puts in search words that are similar, it will reject or not score the resume very highly and get very little consideration. So, prior to sending your resume/marketing document go to LinkedIn and take a look at other people who work there or have worked there in similar positions. If there is an advertisement for the open position, make your marketing document reflect their needs. This is the biggest key to getting the interview.
If the document passes through the system/program with a high enough score it will be reviewed by an HR person who doesn't have a clue about how to do your job. If it is a high enough match it will be forwarded to a decision maker regarding a match to their needs.
Quantify things. In a sea of words, numbers stand out; especially those that quantify using $$$. Size of a project in $, time and resources pay big.
Another consideration is where you live. Even though you are highly qualified, the program will kick you out if you reside over a certain distance from the job site. This might not be a real consideration in rural areas but the system doesn't know that. But, if you live in Fort Worth and the job site is in Plano you probably won't be selected for further consideration. The ATS compares your zip code and possibly home address to the job site.
The bottom line? Always sell what somebody wants to buy. Never hope that they will buy what you want to sell.
As a headhunter, when I figured this out, I started getting more interviews and making a lot more $.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley, Rancher Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP

ATS is run by computers who want you to be a robot working for someone else under a horrible boss. You gonna be miserable. Work for yourself, be your own boss, trust me on this. Life is way too short.
