Wonder where they were killed. Guadalupe county didn't have many deer back then. Maybe they were west of I-35?

There are a couple in there that wouldn't make AR requirements today.
But still nice. Hunts like these are part of the reason we have AR’s and bag limits
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Wonder where they were killed. Guadalupe county didn't have many deer back then. Maybe they were west of I-35? Didn’t say. There isn’t much of Guadalupe county west of 35. My guess was it was along the river bottom. And no, Guadalupe county isn’t known for a lot of deer. There are some pockets south east of town towards Nixon that has good numbers though county wide to my knowledge it’s always been sparsely populated. Maybe now we know why....

I know a house that has that same stone walls and red brick trim around the windows in Guadalupe county. It doesn't have a monster oak tree in the front though.

I too have a hard time believing that they were taken in any of Guadalupe county or in any of the surrounding counties. I was not quite alive at that time but was in the mid 50's through the mid 60's in Bexar and as I said my Grandparents had the farm in that area. There were not that many Deer around in those years. Maybe west more into the Hill Country. But I could be wrong. But for that amount of Bucks to be taken in a short amount of time seems odd if they were indeed taken in that area.

Cool pictures! Like others have said, I think that's a glimpse into the reason for declining deer numbers in the area in subsequent years.

Landowner told me it was taken in Guadalupe county. If you look at the middle picture bottom left hand corner there is some name and “seguin” underneath it.

I wonder if they hunted or were processing for the county. Was on a property today that had a picture history of family deer hunts ( different property than the one I was on) The ranch was outside of Seguin in Guadalupe county.

Cool pictures! Like others have said, I think that's a glimpse into the reason for declining deer numbers in the area in subsequent years. My grandpa used to tell me stories about how in the 60’s they would go to the jetties in port a and catch 150-200 speckled trout in a day....and keep every one. My other grandma always bragged about a story of them catching 1000 lbs of snapper, calling another boat to offload the catch and then proceeding to catch another 1000 pounds. I don’t know if greed or ignorance was the issue, or maybe a mixture of both, but it’s sometimes hard to stomach pics like this...at least it is for me. On the one hand, I’m sure a good time was had by all and it’s apparent it was by the smiles on their faces. On the other it seems to be taking gross advantage of the resource that subsequent generations had to pay for due to the overindulgence of their forbearers.

The guess here is some are guessing that there was a lot of waste involved. That doesn't have to be the case. Maybe they intentionally shot like this to have meat prepared into sausage. Availability of freezers back in that day could be a contributing issue.

People always say if the SHTF then they could survive by shooting deer/game etc..............within a few days there wouldn't be a deer or pig left in TX.

OMG-all of those deer where harvested and not one of the hunters pictured had on any camo. Probably didn't use doe -n- rut scents, or any of the other hunting gimmicks that are marketed today.....Man those where the good ole' days!

I have read of great deer populations in Guadalupe county back in the early 1800's, even bear and buffalo. Cool pictures
