'Been trying to renew my driver's license for two days now. The letter they sent me said "the most convenient way, yada, yada is to visit our website or call". There's an error message when you try the website and the phone # let's you go through the hassle of providing all the numbers they require and THEN the computer tells you the system isn't working right now, "Please try again later."

And we're pretty sure the last time my wife went in to the office in Boerne to renew hers, someone there lifted her SS# and tried to steal her identity (or sold the #).

You gotta have a "REAL ID" driver's license to get on a plane starting Oct. 1 of this year. What a cluster.

Sorry i can't help you with your problem but hopefully others in your area can point you in the right direction to an office in reasonable distance that will be fairly painless.
I have a question about the REAL ID requirement for plane flights. Will a US passport not work?

You need your SS card and a birth certificate with a raised seal that they can feel with their fingertip. You also need to fill out their renewal form DL-43. Add Adobe Fill n Sign app and use it to fill out DL-43 and print it . Add your DD214 if your license doesn’t already say Veteran it applicable.

It’s easy when you’re ready. Put everything in a secure folder and hold on to it. Don’t put it down anywhere.

I got there a few minutes before opening time and there were 14 people in line at the door. I waited an hour and a half for a pleasant 10 minute conversation with a nice lady. Getting there real early is the key.

I did mine online a while back ... you print out a temporary driver license until the real one comes in the mail. It was simple.

I hate that CLD holders have to go in everytime we change anything on our license.

Thanks for reminding me to look at my passport- it's expired. Global entry expires this year. I gotta get busy.

When I got my real ID I took my passport instead of birth certificate. They accepted it just fine.

Glad to hear a passport works, by wife needs to get hers updated but keeps putting it off. We are going to Scotland later this year so we are good.

Yup, had to renew mine, very annoying to have to go in as they don't do anything special.
