I wish the people who make outdoor equipment and small bottles of propane would get together and fix the problem with bottles not matching the size of the support bases that come with outdoor equipment. I always have to pry off the plastic base of the bottles so they will fit the support base that comes with lanterns and heaters. This can be a real paid in the butt when you're sitting in a deer blind and don't have a strong screwdriver that's up to the task.
Rant over.

You would think this would be universal in size but somehow they are not. New product opportunity....base adapter!

Come on Texas Dan. You have a heated deer stand and you're complaining? Leave a multi tool in the stand, that way you can fix all your appliances.

I do own 1 Mr. Buddy heater , but I think I've fired it up once in a blind, just to see what all the hubub was about. That's in roughly 48 years of hunting.

I have old Coleman catalytic heater in 3 blinds, a Mr Buddy in the big blind. And a new and dead Buddy something or other. Junk.
Why did Coleman quit making those catalytic heaters?

I gotta burner thingy my FIL gave me. Sits on top of a propane bottle. You can cook on it if you're careful. I do remember squatting over it for a while, in a travel trailer (with a window cracked) during a particularly blue norther , mule deer hunting west of Kermit.

I keep hearing about these heaters but don't have one. I just wear the right clothing for the conditions and rarely sit in a box blind unless it's pouring rain. I don't understand how folks are getting this cold unless they are not wearing the right clothing.

Not everybody thermoregulates the same way, to the same uniformity, or to the same amount. Not everyone responds the same way to environmental conditions.

Heck, I have heaters in the blinds now because I can. I hunted hard core for decades. Froze to a metal ladder stand once. Had to chip my way out with my KaBar. Enough of that. Not a kid anymore.
I also often dragged dead deer half a mile or more (pre ATV) back in those days. How many of you hard core no-heater guys are still doing that?

Why do I use a heater when it's below 40 degrees? As you get older you begin to realize you're willing to accept more reasons for staying home. Using a heater removes one of those increasing number of reasons. It's just the opposite of when you're much younger and practically nothing can keep you out of the woods.

Spent many days sitting under a tree in the Grasslands as a younger fellow when it was in the teens and sleeting. I've earned my blind and heater!

UPDATE:
It appears I owe the folks at Coleman an apology. After checking the plastic base that came with my Coleman lantern, I found it's a solid match for small propane bottles. It's the base that came with my Little Buddy heater that's too small. Having an extra Coleman base, I put it in the bag I use to carry my Little Buddy heater and should be all set the next time I need to fire up some heat.

Get some scraps of 2x12 lumber, you can scrounge beg or barter for this, cut the correct size hole to set the tanks in. Safer than that the plastic stuff. I also made some for my coffee cup and coke cans, Makes it hard to accidentally kick them over.

Speaking of propane bottles, where can a person take empties to be recycled?

Yup, they are easy to refill. Are you breaking any laws if you refill the small bottles? Just curious so I'll know before taking them to someone to refill.

I bought a refill valve on Amazon. I had about a dozen empty 1 lb bottles and refilled all with my grill bottle. Takes about 2 or 3 minutes each. Instructions say better if you place small bottles in freezer for 30 minutes or so first. I haven’t done that, but have no prob getting the bottles 2/3 to 3/4 full. Easy and cheap.

I was hunting in someone else's blind this morning. I decided to fire the little propane heater to knock off the chill. It was dark, and the heater fell over before I could light it. I stood it up and it fell right over again. There were three of the plastic bottoms that the come on the little bottles stuck in the base. Each time a bottle was swapped out the bottom from the previous bottle stayed there. I removed them and it worked better. Someone needs a 2 x 12.
